The educational potential of creative writing for developing writing skills in the process of training future foreign language teachers
Abstract
the article focuses on the role of creative writing in increasing the success of the process of developing written speech skills. In this case, students are placed in a situation that involves critical understanding of the problem, analysis and selection of the most adequate solution to the communicative task. The goal is to create a written speech product, namely: writing microtexts based on the principle of minimalism (short notes, posts on social networks, memes, slogans, inscriptions for posters and affirmations); preparing group letters; creating diverse dialogues and scenarios; working on creating their own original work in the genre of a fairy tale, poem, novel or short prose. This contributes to the formation of an individual author’s style and develops the creative imagination of students. The article presents the results of an experiment at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the South-Ural state Humanities-Pedagogical University to analyze the efficiency of using creative writing to develop writing skills of future foreign language teachers. Evolution of environmental education in military universities: analysis of changes in the federal state educational standard and development prospects
Abstract
the article is devoted to the analysis of the transformation of environmental education in military universities in Russia in the context of the evolution of Federal State Educational Standards (FSES) – from the third generation (FSES 3) to the project of FSES 4. The main attention is paid to the contradictions between the global trend towards the greening of education and the specifics of training military specialists, where environmental competencies are gradually replaced by narrowly professional safety requirements. Based on a comparative analysis of the standards (FSES 3, 3+, 3++, 4), it was revealed that in the civilian sector, ecology has transformed from a basic course into an interdisciplinary module with an emphasis on sustainable development, digitalization, and ESG principles. In military education, on the other hand, there is a reduction in environmental competencies: while FSES 3+ included skills in environmental monitoring and audit, FSES 4 has reduced them to general requirements for life safety. The author attributes this to the lack of qualified environmental educators in military universities and the conservative approach to education. The key issue is the absence of a basic environmental course that covers not only legal aspects but also practical methods for minimizing environmental damage during combat operations. It is emphasized that modern armed conflicts require environmentally-friendly solutions, such as the development of green weapons technologies. In conclusion, the author proposes measures to integrate environmental education into military programs, including the training of specialized personnel and the adaptation of international experience.

Professional upbringing of students in the context of the transformation of functions and competencies of higher education
Abstract
this article examines the theoretical foundations of professional upbringing of students within the framework of the third mission of Russian universities. Based on an analysis of normative acts (FSES HE 3++, Federal Law No. 304-FZ dated July 31, 2020, and the Concept for the Development of Mentoring in the Russian Federation through 2030), data from higher-education trends monitoring, and expert surveys, the study identifies a clear shift in the functional and competency profile of Russian HEIs. Between 2024 and 2025, civic-patriotic initiatives became institutionalized, volunteering emerged as a significant source of social capital, and multi-tiered mentoring frameworks proliferated. A comparative analysis of domestic and international third-mission practices reveals the regulatory depth and programmatic complexity of Russian approaches alongside active adaptation of service-learning and mentoring models. The article outlines key pedagogical conditions for professional upbringing – integrating civic tasks into curricula, expanding volunteering and mentoring programs, fostering supportive educational environments (including library-based services), and strengthening university–municipal partnerships. Finally, it proposes a four-contour model (strategic, organizational, methodological, and diagnostic) to ensure a coherent, systematic approach to professional upbringing.

Comprehending historical process in school learning via chronology
Abstract
the article examines the problem of developing chronological understanding among school students as one of the key components of historical thinking. The aim of the study is to analyze the current state of students' chronological knowledge, identify typical difficulties when working with chronological material, and determine effective methodological tools to improve the level of chronological training. The authors set the following tasks: summarizing Unified State Exam (USE) data in history from 2019 to 2024, identifying common mistakes made by graduates, analyzing pedagogical approaches to visualizing chronology, and describing the potential of using timelines in the educational process. Additionally, the paper explores a model of semantic timeline structuring, which includes three interconnected components: the causality field, the fact space, and the consequences field. The theoretical significance of the study lies in clarifying the role of chronology as a structural element of history education and justifying the potential of visual tools in shaping a holistic perception of historical time. The practical significance of the research is that the proposed methodological approaches can be successfully applied in school practice – both in learning new material and in reviewing and consolidating knowledge, as well as in preparing for final history assessments.

A semantic and cultural comparative study of Chinese and Russian idioms related to body parts
Abstract
this study systematically compares Chinese and Russian idioms related to body parts to identify their semantic and cultural characteristics and develop effective methodological approaches to teaching Chinese to Russian-speaking students. The study utilized cognitive analysis of metaphors, cross-cultural comparison of phraseological units, and a pedagogical experiment using situational and visual teaching methods. The results revealed three types of cultural prototypes: universal, overlapping, and dissonant, demonstrating differences in the conceptualization of bodily experience in the Chinese and Russian linguistic worldviews. It was demonstrated that integrating cultural context, explaining metaphorical mechanisms, and using interactive forms of work contribute to improved understanding and reproduction of idioms, with the level of correct use in communicative tasks increasing by 35%. The findings can be used in the development of teaching materials and professional development courses for Chinese language teachers.

The instrumental legacy of M.I. Glinka as a system-forming factor of the Russian musical school
Abstract
this article is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka's instrumental legacy, considered a system-forming factor of the Russian musical school. Although the composer's operatic works are widely acknowledged, his instrumental compositions remain insufficiently studied regarding their influence on the formation of national musical identity and pedagogical repertoire. The primary objective of the study is to identify the essential characteristics and historical significance of Glinka's instrumental music, focusing primarily on his symphonic works and piano miniatures. The methodology employed includes a historical-cultural approach, structural-functional analysis of musical form, harmony, and orchestration, as well as a comparative method. The study demonstrates that Glinka's innovative orchestral techniques – characterized by a rich timbral palette, dynamic contrasts, and a synthesis of genres – laid the foundations of Russian symphonic tradition and decisively influenced subsequent generations of composers, notably the members of "The Mighty Handful" and P.I. Tchaikovsky. Additionally, special attention is devoted to the pedagogical value of piano miniatures (such as "Farewell Waltz," "Nocturne 'Separation',"and "The Lark"), which significantly develop performance technique, phrasing, and artistic expression. The scholarly novelty lies in the holistic interpretation of Glinka's instrumental works as a fundamental component of Russian musical tradition, remaining highly relevant in contemporary music education and performance practice.

Teaching the lexical aspect of speech in light of a renewed perspective on the meaning of a lexical unit
Abstract
the purpose of this article is to examine contemporary approaches to defining what it means to “know a word”, with an emphasis on the multi-aspectual nature of lexical meanings. This includes such aspects as formal-semantic relationships, conceptual significance, associative links, collocations, stylistic and genre-related restrictions, ethical and contextual constraints, register features, and others. The article argues that a multi-layered approach to word knowledge must be integrated into the process of teaching vocabulary in order to achieve deeper and more adequate lexical competence. An expanded perspective on mastery of a lexical unit provides access not only to its meaning, but also to the sociolinguistic, socio-cultural, and linguacultural specificities of the target language and culture. The article presents a generalized concept of a “lexical unit”, including individual words, multi-word expressions, fixed collocations, set phrases, frames, and core sentence elements.

Cultural confidence as the foundation of innovative practice of ideological and political education in colleges and universities in China
Abstract
in the context of globalization and a rapidly changing world, cultural confidence is becoming a key factor determining the effectiveness of ideological and political education in colleges and universities. This paper explores the relationship between cultural confidence and innovative practices in education, emphasizing the importance of integrating cultural values and identity into curricula. Existing approaches to ideological education in Chinese universities are analyzed, problems of formalism and lack of practical connection with modern realities are identified. Based on theoretical frameworks such as the theory of cultural reproduction and the culture-ideology-innovation model, strategies for modernizing the educational content are proposed, including the use of technologies (AR/VR) and active learning methods (debates, social projects). The results of the study show that cultural confidence not only helps strengthen patriotism and critical thinking among students, but also improves the overall educational environment, enhancing the international authority of the Chinese education model. The work offers recommendations for universities on the creation of centers for cultural and ideological innovations and the introduction of gamification into the educational process.

Criteria for the selection of scientific materials when teaching foreign languages to cadets of military universities
Abstract
teaching foreign languages is a necessary component of all levels of education. Military education is no exception, but the goals and objectives of studying foreign languages in military educational institutions have their own characteristics. They are associated with the professional focus of the educational environment, as well as the need to form high moral qualities of future military personnel. These features directly affect the work of a foreign language teacher, the choice of approaches to teaching, and rethinking the system of criteria for selecting educational materials. The need to cover the events of a special military operation made this search daily, which, accordingly, entails changes in the structural and substantive content of the lesson itself. Competent selection of material for teaching students of military universities foreign languages is the main technique for activating attention and a factor stimulating cadets to study a foreign language. The system of criteria for selecting educational materials (texts) for cadets of military educational institutions includes two main groups of criteria: didactic and pedagogical and linguodidactic. Didactic and pedagogical criteria are responsible for the content of the text and are leading in military educational institutions. Lingvodidactic criteria evaluate the language aspect of the educational text. Not all texts can be used in foreign language classes with future military personnel; they must meet such requirements as informative and cognitive, pragmatic, linguistic value, thematic relevance, patriotism, situationality and communicativeness, authenticity, feasibility and accessibility, diversity of verbal and visual means, technical accessibility. Careful selection of foreign language educational material will help the teacher build a competent, effective system of teaching a foreign language that meets modern socio-political realities.
