Abstract

this article is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka's instrumental legacy, considered a system-forming factor of the Russian musical school. Although the composer's operatic works are widely acknowledged, his instrumental compositions remain insufficiently studied regarding their influence on the formation of national musical identity and pedagogical repertoire. The primary objective of the study is to identify the essential characteristics and historical significance of Glinka's instrumental music, focusing primarily on his symphonic works and piano miniatures. The methodology employed includes a historical-cultural approach, structural-functional analysis of musical form, harmony, and orchestration, as well as a comparative method. The study demonstrates that Glinka's innovative orchestral techniques – characterized by a rich timbral palette, dynamic contrasts, and a synthesis of genres – laid the foundations of Russian symphonic tradition and decisively influenced subsequent generations of composers, notably the members of "The Mighty Handful" and P.I. Tchaikovsky. Additionally, special attention is devoted to the pedagogical value of piano miniatures (such as "Farewell Waltz," "Nocturne 'Separation',"and "The Lark"), which significantly develop performance technique, phrasing, and artistic expression. The scholarly novelty lies in the holistic interpretation of Glinka's instrumental works as a fundamental component of Russian musical tradition, remaining highly relevant in contemporary music education and performance practice.
