Abstract
the article explores the historical, cultural, and methodological aspects of undergraduate journalism education in China. The author traces the evolution of journalism training from its early 20th-century roots to contemporary reforms driven by digitalization and globalization. The Chinese model is shown as a synthesis of Confucian pedagogical values, ideological influences, and borrowed Western models (American and Soviet). Key challenges identified include an academic-heavy approach, weak integration with media practice, and lack of digital competencies among graduates. Current trends include the introduction of digital media technologies, establishment of media labs, internationalization, and increased focus on practical skills. The article emphasizes the uniqueness of China’s journalism education system that combines tradition with innovation. The findings are based on content analysis of university curricula, comparative methodology, and expert interviews. The study concludes that comprehensive modernization is needed to meet industry demands while preserving China’s educational identity.
