Greek loans in economic terminology in the Russian language: historical context and modern usage

Bragina E.R.

Abstract

this article explores the influence of Greek borrowings on the economic terminology of the Russian language. The aim of the study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Greek loans, including their historical classification and contemporary usage. To achieve this goal, methods such as corpus analysis, structural analysis of terms, case studies, and both percentage and quantitative counting are employed. The research is based on a selection from various dictionaries, including economic and etymological sources. The results indicate that Greek loans in economic terminology have deep historical roots and diverse thematic groups. Key historical periods that facilitated the borrowing of Greek vocabulary have been identified, along with examples of literary works reflecting these borrowings. A quantitative analysis of modern economic terms with Greek etymology allowed for their classification by levels of usage and areas of application. The study's conclusions emphasize the importance of Greek loans in shaping economic terminology and their significance for understanding the historical and cultural context of the Russian language.

Quranic text as a source of Arabic realities

Magsusi H.J., Al-Foadi R.A., Mingazova N.G.

Abstract

the article is devoted to the systematization and analysis of the corpus of Arabic realities of the Qur'anic text. The methodological basis includes the linguocultural approach, referential and thematic classification, as well as the use of linguistic, cultural and translation studies methods. As a result, an inventory of Arabic realities was made by groups: ethnographic (theonyms, mythonyms, anthroponyms), socio-political (legal terms, etiquette formulas) and geographical (toponyms, zoonyms). The obtained data confirm the presence of a pronounced ethno-cultural component and the absence of exact equivalents in Russian. The practical significance lies in the improvement of methods of equivalent translation and intercultural interpretation of religious realities. Scientific novelty lies in the synthesis of theoretical and methodological approaches and practical techniques for the systematic study of the Quranic text in the conditions of intercultural interaction.

Features of the representation of the concept "national project" in the online media of the Udmurt Republic (based on the material of the Susanin news agency)

Trepalina N.E., Tuktangulova E.V.

Abstract

modern researchers have increasingly paid attention to the issues of conceptualization of the external and internal world in recent years. With the development of the information society, the formation of the worldview is almost entirely dependent on the media. In this regard, the issue of the impact that the media have on the process of concept formation in a global society is becoming particularly relevant. For a number of years, the country has been implementing long-term government programs, the priority of which is the development of key areas of life in Russian society. Despite the scale of the projects, the level of awareness about them among the Russian population was far from optimistic. Therefore, the issue of information support for national projects has become one of the key issues. The Udmurt Republic occupies consistently high places in the ratings of regions in terms of the level of implementation of national projects, the media coverage of which is carried out by almost all registered mass media of the republic. The purpose of this study is to study the specifics of the implementation of the concept of "national project" in regional mass media, as well as to identify linguistic means that influence the formation of the analyzed concept. Lexico-semantic, conceptual, and content analysis were used in the study. The novelty of the research lies in identifying the features of the concept implementation based on the material of regional online media. The study of the publications of the Susanin news agency (Udmurt Republic) provides a deeper understanding of the concept of "national project" in the presented context. The research results demonstrate the complex structure of the concept.

Syntax as an artistic means in E.G. Vodolazkin's novel "The Laurel"

Bregadze Y.S.

Abstract

this article presents the results of an analysis of the syntax features of E.G. Vodolazkin's novel "The Laurel". In the process of studying the linguistic material, it was revealed that one of the key features of the syntactic structure of the novel is its emotivity. It is established that the author deviates in many ways from the generally accepted punctuation rules for making sentences, which is perceived as a distinctive feature of the analyzed work. It is revealed that the author, developing the main idea of the novel about the timelessness of events, creates an artistic text devoid of paragraph division and direct speech, in a similar way the writer "dissolves" the text in time. In addition, the results of the study showed that the syntactic design of the novel "Laurel" is also associated with the influence of trends in modern syntax, such as the presence of parcels in the text. Parcel is one of the main means of actualizing individual semantic parts of an utterance. The author pays special attention to describing the emotional state of a person, often resorting to the mentioned technique, thereby focusing the reader's attention on the most important points.

The semantic unity of “generosity”–“greed” in the ethical paradigm

Svetlova S.V.

Abstract

based on contextual analysis, the article traces the formation of the semantic unity of generosity – greed, where the first is the concept itself, which includes aspiration, a pattern, a positive example, and the second is an anti–concept, that is, avoidance, a negative example. However, this antonymic pair is gradually forming in the Russian language consciousness. In the 18th century, there is no reason to consider generosity – greed as a dual concept, since the lexeme “greed” still carries a positive or neutral value associated with earlier usage in religious discourse, where its first literal meaning was “hunger” and the second, metonymic, “acute, strong desire”. But the prerequisites for the formation of the anti-concept of generosity were laid already in the XVIII century, when an ethical paradigm was being formed, in which generosity and greed are used as ethical concepts, being verbalized in various genres. The fragments of the works of V.K. Trediakovsky, M.V. Lomonosov, S.S. Volchkov, I.I. Lepekhin, N.P. Rychkov, I.A. Krylov, D.I. Fonvizin, A.N. Radishchev and other writers, scientists and publicists of the XVIII century, whose texts containing the studied concepts are selected according to the degree of representativeness and influence, are analyzed. the formation of the Russian linguistic consciousness and the national conceptual sphere. The result of the study is the conclusion that the concept of “generosity” occupies an important place in Russian linguistic culture, being ethically significant, basic, while “greed” is gradually losing its polysemanticism and turning into an anti-concept.

Stylistic adequacy in neural machine translation of Russian scientific texts into English: opportunities and limitations

Ivantsova N.A., Galich I.A.

Abstract

this study evaluates the ability of neural machine translation (NMT) systems to adapt scientific texts to the stylistic conventions of the target language. The research analyzes the translation of a Russian-language economics article produced by DeepL, focusing on its compliance with the norms of English academic style. Key criteria include syntactic structure, voice usage, lexical specificity, and logical cohesion. The findings indicate that while NMT accurately conveys content, it often fails to fully adapt the text to English academic discourse. Specifically, the translations retain excessive syntactic complexity, literal renderings of Russian impersonal constructions and genitive chains, reducing the naturalness of the English output. However, the system successfully converts reflexive verbs into passive constructions and partially adjusts lexical choices. The practical significance of this work lies in identifying specific areas for improving NMT systems in scientific translation. The result can be applied to develop novel neural network training approaches, including creating specialized language models trained on annotated scientific corpora, developing automated stylistic analysis mechanisms, and implementing context-dependent text transformation algorithms. These advancements are particularly crucial given the increasing volume of international scholarly publications and the need to overcome linguistic disparities in academic communication.

Concepts of time and fashion: linguistic representations in media discourse

Nalobina A.P.

Abstract

the presented article is devoted to the interconnection between temporal and fashion-related concepts in contemporary media texts. Drawing on fashion articles, the study analyses how language reflects the dynamics of temporal changes in the fashion industry. Particular attention is paid to lexical units, stylistic devices, and evaluative strategies (moral, aesthetic, utilitarian) that shape the perception of fashion as a cultural-temporal phenomenon. The research employs addresser/addressee theory and cognitive-discursive approaches to demonstrate how media texts construct models of «timelessness» and «immediacy» in fashion. The study aims to identify and analyse linguistic mechanisms representing temporal concepts in fashion media discourse, while examining how sociocultural values related to fashion temporality are constructed and transmitted through linguistic means. Findings reveal that sustainable fashion is represented through both linear and cyclical temporal models, emphasizing durability and ethical value.

Some features of advertising promotion in the commercial space

Terskikh T.F., Bylkova A.D.

Abstract

the article draws attention to the positive impact of the use of linguistic signs in advertising, in particular, polysemy (the presence of two or more meanings related to the meaning and origin of a language unit) on the advertising context, since the transmission of several meanings in one advertising message helps to save linguistic resources. In addition, polysemy helps to create an ironic attitude towards what is read and raise the consumer's mood, and understanding advertising slogans containing several planes of perception increases consumer self-esteem, since not everyone is able to notice them. The importance of the manipulative function of polysemy, which is used to convince a potential customer to purchase the offered product, was also noted. The promotion of advertising in the commercial space is also facilitated by language play and a creative approach to creating advertising, taking into account the innovations of the territorial and national character of a huge country.

The origins of B. Shaw's drama extravagance in the works of English writers of different periods

Chernova V.A.

Abstract

the purpose of the study is to determine in the works of which foreign writers the origins of extravagance in the dramaturgy can be traced. The article examines examples from the works of other English writers (W. Shakespeare, B. Jonson, G. Fielding, L. Sterne) in which one can trace the emergence of manifestations of extravagance in the behavior and reasoning of character. To achieve the above research objective, it is necessary to slove the following tasks: - to explore the emergence of the image of the eccentric in English literature; - to define the content of the term weiro; - to analize the plays «Every Man in His Humour» by B. Jonson 1958, published in 1601; «Twelf Night, Or What you Will» by W. Shakespeare, published in 1601, staged for the first time in 1602; «The Coffee-House Politician», «Rape upon Rape, or The Justice Caught in His Humour» by G. Fielding, 1730, staged for the first time this year; «The Intriguing Chambermaid» by G. Fielding, 1733, staged in 1734; «The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, gentlman» by L. Sterne, 1759-1767 for finding extravagance in them. This word comes from the French equivalent «extravagant», which means unusual not in the line with generally accepted customs, norms, fashion. (Dictionary of Foreign Words, 1984, p. 577). Practical significance of the study: the research materials can be used in universities of the humanities in the discipline of «foreign literature» and in the study of special courses and special seminars on B. Elements of magical realism in Zadie Smith's novel "White Teeth"

Safarova Z.A.

Abstract

this article examines Zadie Smith's novel “White Teeth” from the perspective of magical realism. It identifies magical elements that the author uses to develop the theme and main ideas of the novel. Zadie Smith's novel White Teeth is a multi-layered work that combines a realistic depiction of life in multicultural London with elements of magical realism. This paper analyzes the manifestations of magical realism in the text of the novel, including symbolism, ironic refraction of historical and scientific facts, as well as the influence of mythological and religious motifs on the development of the plot and the formation of characters. Particular attention is paid to how elements of the irrational and fantastic are used by the author to criticize colonial heritage, issues of identity, and cultural memory. Smith's magical realism does not violate the logic of the narrative, but on the contrary, emphasizes the ambiguity and complexity of modern reality. The study demonstrates that the use of magical realism in the novel serves as a powerful artistic tool that allows the author to rethink the historical past and current social conflicts through the prism of cultural diversity.

Impressionism in the A.P. Сhekhov’s prose

Tochieva K.S., Kodzoeva F.Z., Gorchkhanova T.K.

Abstract

it is widely acknowledged that Chekhov's realism is a unique phenomenon that differs from the classical realism of the 19th century. The point is that Chekhov integrated both realistic traditions and new stylistic discoveries – particularly impressionism – into his method. Impressionism manifested in French painting, but its aesthetic principles and techniques proved to be fruitful for other forms of art, as they possessed a wide aesthetic potential. In literary art, writers such as Guy de Maupassant and Chekhov are often referred to as impressionists, which is justified. We analyzed Chekhov's story "The Steppe" and discovered artistic elements of impressionism in the poetics of the narrative. Besides the issue of the poetics of impressionism in Chekhov's artistic method, it is also important to highlight another problem – the connection and mutual influence between painting and literary art.

Spiritual and moral development in the era of systemic sociocultural transformations: social and pedagogical aspect

Skopa V.A.

Abstract

the modern axiological paradigm of Russian society is formed in the conditions of a complex value synthesis, which is characterized by a multi-vector interaction of historical heritage and innovative socio-cultural impulses. The socio-pedagogical context of spiritual and moral development involves a comprehensive approach that integrates educational strategies, educational technologies and socio-cultural practices. The axiological core of educational systems concentrates the deep meanings of human interaction, ensuring the coherence of social ties through the prism of spiritual and moral coordinates. In the era of total technologization and destructive urbanization, there is a devaluation of traditional value matrices, where material imperatives dominate over existential dimensions. Such an intellectual environment is transformed into a latent mechanism for deconstructing the fundamental foundations of the educational space, producing risks of mental disintegration of modern society. The process of revaluation of values unfolds as a complex dialogue between inertial cultural patterns and new social meanings, often borrowed from the global cultural context. Educational work in this context plays a key role, on which the formation of the spiritual and moral foundations of the younger generation largely depends.
