Religious and ethical foundations of the A.K. Tolstoy's tragedy "Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich"

Bedina N.N.

Abstract

the relevance of defining the national identity foundations determines of the constant research interest in the artistic texts, which pose philosophical (historiosophical) issues. The A.K. Tolstoy's dramaturgy refers to such texts. The article solves the research task of showing that Tolstoy's understanding of human nature and the historical process nature, on the one hand, is determined by the inclusion of Russian noble culture in the pan-European cultural process (primarily it is rooted in the romantic tradition). On the other hand, the article demonstrates the stability of the religious and ethical foundations of Russian national culture, formed in the bosom of the Eastern Christian Orthodoxy. The medieval monastic ideal of a harmonious synthesis of penitential prayer practice and active love became no longer popular in the Russian culture of Modern times. However, hermeneutic analysis of texts from the 19th century shows that concepts such as sin, death, punishment, mercy and salvation in their Orthodox interpretation remain fundamental in the Russian culture. Comparison of the A.K. Tolstoy's tragedy "Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich" with the F.M. Dostoevsky's novel "The Idiot" allows us to fit Tolstoy's work into a wide artistic and philosophical context and identify one of the key philosophical issues of Russian history and culture. It is a tense choice between active action for the moral world transformation and contemplation of the beauty of the world, already transformed by God's providential plan for man.

Edutainment in foreign language education: current state and development trends

Ilyagueva Y.I.

Abstract

the article presents a systematic review of scientific literature devoted to the application of edutainment method in foreign language education. Based on the analysis of 34 domestic and foreign studies (2000-2024), the key approaches to the definition of edutainment, forms of its implementation in foreign language education, as well as its influence on the motivation and involvement of students are highlighted. The main attention is paid to the classification of edutainment methods (from traditional (linguistic games, authentic media) to digital (mobile applications, VR-platforms)), identification of its advantages and limitations, as well as the prospects of its use in digital educational environment. The methodological framework includes qualitative content analysis of publications, scientometrics and comparative analysis of Russian and foreign works. As a result, edutainment improves the efficiency of language learning by 30-40% (according to empirical studies), but its application requires the consideration of age, cultural and technical limitations. The article also for the first time reveals discrepancies in Russian and foreign approaches: foreign studies emphasise academic effectiveness, while Russian studies focus on emotional impact. The aim of the paper is to systematise the current state of scientific knowledge about the edutainment method and to formulate directions for further research. The practical significance of the work lies in the development of recommendations for integrating edutainment into the educational process while maintaining a balance between the entertainment and didactic components. The author considers the adaptation of edutainment for different age groups and the creation of methods for assessing its long-term impact on language competences as promising areas of research.

Discursive markers in sports telegram channels

Krylova D.G.

Abstract

the article examines the use of discursive markers in media texts in two sport telegram channels differing in genesis. The telegram channel which was initially established in social service without any earlier background in traditional media (radio, TV, printed press) is called in the article “social media”. Posts from social media are represented in the article by mediatexts from sports telegram channel 2Drots. Telegram channel originated from traditional media is called in the article “online media”. Texts from this media type are represented in the article by posts of telegram channel Match TV, which basically is the resident of MATCH TV-channel in social service. The comparison of chances of use of exact discursive markers which are most frequently seen in Telegram channels demonstrates that statistically significant differences are seen in few numbers of cases. This observation leads to the conclusion that the genesis of telegram channels does not play the front role in the choice of discursive marker in the process of discourse structuring. There are two main reasons to choose the exact discursive marker in the process of forming the discourse of the considered Telegram channels. The first oeason is sport which literary is emotion, action that can not be predicted. The second eason is connected with the first one. Sport discourse in most cases is oral discourse and oral speech is originally less organized, less logically correct and predicted respected to the written one.

Axiological linguistic techniques for enhancing the informational value of a publicist text: specific characteristics

Soboleva E.V.

Abstract

the article analyzes the specific use of axiomatically determined linguistic tools and methods in order to determine their impact on the level of the informational value in publicist texts. The author conducts a thorough examination of the inherent characteristics of these instruments and their significant impact on the reception of information as well as on the development of specific cognitive frameworks and belief systems among readers. This analysis is framed within the broader context of the dynamics of social and linguistic interactions among participants in the communication process. The goal of this research is to identify and thoroughly examine axiolinguistic tools and techniques that enhance the informational value of publicist texts. Additionally, it aims to analyze the values inherent in these methods. The specificity of the linguistic tools under consideration is due to the integration of the axiological approach into the linguistic analysis of publicist texts, which provides an opportunity for a deeper study of communication mechanisms and a clearer understanding of the impact of authorial value attitudes on public consciousness. The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying and analysing specific linguistic tools, which are axiologically determined and are frequently used in publicist texts in order to enhance their informativeness and to increase their translocative effect. The research reveals that in the axiological framework publicist texts achieve their informational power by blending factual data with expressions of value attitudes. This combination allows the texts not only to function as sources of information, but also to shape the ideological position of their readers. Axiological tools are essential for enhancing the informational value of the texts, organizing the content, and significantly influencing readers' cognitive processes. The findings are valuable for specialists in the field of linguistics, journalism and communication studies who prioritize clarity, informational content and accuracy in their work.

Narcissism and envy in unison: a psychological and aesthetic interpretation of Leo Tolstoy's the Kreutzer sonata

Bai J.

Abstract

the article provides a psychoanalytic interpretation of L.N. Tolstoy's story "The Kreutzer Sonata" through the prism of Z. Freud's key concepts of dreams, libido and narcissism. It is proved that the author's unconscious conflicts and repressed desires are transformed into artistic images and plot collisions, forming the narrative core of the work. An analysis of the evolution of the hero Pozdnyshev's libido reveals its stages, naturally leading to a tragic denouement. His narcissistic personality organization is examined, manifested in pathological egocentrism and delusional jealousy as a consequence of a deep crisis of self-identification. The article contributes to Tolstoy studies, revealing the work as a prophetic study of destructive passions and the tragedy of personality.

On the issue of scientific research of the Lak language

Ilyasov I.I.

Abstract

the scientific study of the Lak language began in the 60s of the XIX century, when the famous researcher of Caucasian languages P.K. Uslar gave a detailed description of the Lak language on the basis of the Kurklin dialect of its Vitskhi dialect. Choosing the Vitskhi dialect to describe the Lak language is the right decision, as it unites the dialects of more than ten villages in this region. At the moment, the Lak language has been studied well in grammatical and lexical relations. In the second half of the last century, work was carried out in the field of research and improvement of the Lak language. Various dictionaries, educational literature, and monographs have been published. There is an interest in this language from foreign and domestic researchers. Monographs and a large number of scientific articles have been published that explore various issues of phonetics, morphology, syntax, dialect features, and vocabulary of the Lak language. In addition, original literature of various genres has been created and developed in this language. Many works of Russian and world literature have been translated into Lak. Of the modern researchers, I.H. Abdullaev has made the greatest contribution to the study of this language, who took an active part in all events dedicated to the study and preservation of Dagestani languages.

On the question of dialects in the Old Frisian language

Krasnoschekov E.V., Shiryaeva A.S.

Abstract

the aim of this study is to analyze the dialects of the Old Frisian language in the Germanic language area. Old Frisian is the youngest representative of the group of Old Germanic languages. However, as a language, it appeared a very long time ago, as evidenced by the surviving runic inscriptions in the vernacular. Based on the data obtained, it was established that there were several dialects in the Old Frisian language, which practically coincided with the diocesan division of Frisia, as mentioned by Frankish sources of the 8th century, and which is contained in ancient manuscripts dating back to the period between 400 and 800 AD. Each of the dialects is characterized by its own features that manifest themselves in phonology, morphology, morphology, and also have differences in vocabulary, which is confirmed by toponyms and personal names preserved in the modern language. The spread of varieties of the Frisian language today reflects the result of a long historical process. The Old Frisian language is so interesting and complex in many aspects that it attracts scientists from all over the world. The material for the presented work was the data of Russian and foreign linguists-philologists. The proposed material may be of interest to students and postgraduates studying the languages and dialects of the Germanic group.

On the use of identical transformations for some unrelated languages in the process of translation

Kurlyandskaya O.G.

Abstract

hereby we reveal the possibility of using grammatical verb tenses, in the context of compound verbal predicates, as the basis for conducting structural approaches in such unrelated languages as Russian, Arabic and English. The work of fiction chosen for conducting our comparative analysis is “The Master and Margarita”, a famous novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, and a number of its translations into Arabic and English. We analyze 15 Arabic compound verbal predicates along with the corresponding syntagmas in the Russian origin and English translation. Considering the concept of absolute time same as the necessary semantic and grammatical patterns, our goal is to identify identical transformations in the process of translation from Russian into either Arabic or English to achieve the required equivalence of translation considering reflection of time of action with its characteristics determined by the original Russian text.

Body language and its characteristics

Liu X., Qiu Y.

Abstract

human society distinguishes between verbal and nonverbal communication. Body language, as a nonverbal means of expressing emotions and feelings, possesses semantic diversity, performs various pragmatic functions, and also carries a vast amount of national and cultural information. However, compared to verbal language, the study of body language has not attracted sufficient attention from scholars in Russia or abroad. In this article, we examine body language in Russian and Chinese cultures and, based on an analysis of the results of relevant studies in this field, define the concept of “body language”. A method for classifying gestures is proposed, and their semantic characteristics and pragmatic functions are systematically analyzed. Meanwhile, specific examples are used to compare hand and head gestures commonly found in Russian and Chinese cultures in order to reveal the national and cultural specificity of body language. It is discovered that body language is a kind of means of communication that should not be ignored in interpersonal interactions, especially in intercultural communication.

Destroying the myth of “independent” creativity: class mobility in Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations

Bai B.

Abstract

on the surface, Great Expectations tells the story of an innocent country boy, Pip, who is sponsored by a mysterious benefactor to pursue his dream of “becoming a gentleman” in London, only to have his dream shattered and he eventually returns home. In fact, by describing Pip’s rise and fall, Dickens exposes the illusory nature of the “self-made man” concept that was prevalent in the mid-Victorian era. According to Dickens, the very concept of the "self-made man" is a cultural myth, the true purpose of which is to protect the interests of the middle class and strengthen its superiority in the social hierarchy; the lower class has difficulty in getting an opportunity to move up the social ladder.

Linguistic and cultural features of the translation of artionyms (on the example of works presented at the exhibition project "Peredvizhniki")

Vekovishcheva S.N., Ismailova P.K.

Abstract

this article examines the linguistic and cultural content of the artionym, in particular, the process of linguistic and cultural adaptation, as well as the specifics of the translation techniques (tactics) used in interpreting the names of paintings. The aim of the study was to identify semantic, stylistic and syntactic inconsistencies between the names of the Peredvizhniki paintings in the original and the translation in the process of linguistic and cultural adaptation. The authors also formulated a hypothesis: the names of the paintings of the Wanderers in Russian undergo semantic, stylistic, and syntactic changes in the process of their translation into English. At the same time, linguistic and cultural adaptation acquires shades of figurative euphemia or dysphemia. To confirm or refute the hypothesis, as well as to achieve the goal set in the framework of writing the work, the authors conducted a comparative analysis of the artionyms and their translations into English presented at the exhibition project "Peredvizhniki" in the State Tretyakov Gallery. According to the results of the study, it was possible to come to the conclusion that in the names of the Peredvizhniki paintings there is a syntactic, stylistic or semantic linguistic and cultural adaptation, characterized by episodes of characteristic dysphemia with a predominance of concretization with an increase in meaning, or a figurative leitmotif depicted on the canvas.

Zoonyms in proverbs and sayings of the Dagestan languages

Guseynova M.B.

Abstract

the article provides a comparative analysis of zoonyms in the proverbs and sayings of the Dagestani languages. The Avar, Dargin, Tabasaran and Rutul languages are involved in the comparative analysis. Zoonymic proverbs are actively used in the speech act of speakers of different languages. Such proverbs make up a fairly voluminous part of the proverbial fund of the Dagestan languages. In them, you can find a large number of images borrowed from the animal world. These expressions are based on an existing or attributed attribute of an animal. The proper meaning of one name is transferred to another meaning, which is suitable for the first one only because of the comparison that is in the mind of a native speaker in a cliched form. It is noted that such animal names as donkey, bull, wolf, horse, cat, dog are most actively used. And the names of insects are not often mentioned in the proverbs of these languages. Zoonymic proverbs and sayings are characterized by increased expressiveness and emotionality. Most of the proverbs containing zoonyms coincide in the Dagestan languages. Although there are a number of proverbs that are noted only in one of these languages. This characterizes the national mentality and cultural peculiarities of native speakers.

Stylistic changes in artificial intelligence texts

Salimova N.S.

Abstract

the presented article is written on a relevant topic. Its importance and timeliness are beyond any doubt. Artificial intelligence has become so firmly embedded in our lives that neither students of schools and universities, nor specialists in various fields of scientific or social life can do without it. This is briefly discussed at the very beginning of this article. Further, in the section "Results and discussions", in our opinion, the following points undoubtedly attract attention. Firstly, some of the theoretical provisions introduced into scientific circulation concern not only progressive humanity (which is obvious), but also Azerbaijan itself. Secondly, when moving on to the main aspect, any stylistic changes are wisely considered by the author both in the linguistic text (and, of course, it is always strictly scientific) and in modern fiction. This, of course, increases, so to speak, the cost of this work. Thirdly, it is very significant that the chosen topic is implemented at various language levels. Namely, the latest technological tools fall into the orbit of linguistic analysis, such as specialized block chats, chatbots, various ways of accessing Internet sites are described, etc. These operations are entirely consistent with the central problem, since AI is essentially a mechanized reaction of machine production to a human – embedded computer program. And these innovations are explained in sufficient detail here. Fourthly, the main focus of the entire work on linguistics nevertheless did not prevent the author from reflecting the methodological aspect.

Pink smokescreen: the concept of positive illusion in contemporary political rhetoric

Tskrialashvili A.D.

Abstract

this article is devoted to the conceptualization of the phenomenon of "pink smokescreen" in political communications and its substantiation as an independent analytical category. "pink smokescreen" is understood as a positively colored, but distorted information picture used to mask crisis processes and maintain audience loyalty. The research methodology includes discourse analysis and content analysis of political texts and visual materials, as well as a comparison of the phenomenon under consideration with existing concepts – propaganda, framing, spin-doctoring and simulacra. The results show that "pink smokescreen" has stable characteristics: emotional appeal, selective interpretation of facts, aestheticization and the function of distraction from the negative agenda. An empirical analysis of examples from the campaigns of Donald Trump ("Make America Great Again"), Barack Obama ("Yes We Can") and the Brexit movement ("Take Back Control") demonstrates the use of abstract slogans, metaphors and visual symbols to form attractive but illusory political narratives. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the introduction of the category of "pink smokescreen" into the conceptual apparatus of political science. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using this concept in political science analysis, journalism and expert practice to identify strategies of positive manipulation.

The plot of the brothers Grimm’s fairy tale as the basis for creating own text

Shunyakova O.V., Panova K.D.

Abstract

the article analyzes the plot of the fairy tale which can be considered as the basis for creating one’s own text, since it uses the linguistic units of the original source and preserves the features of the national-and-mental representation of reality. Creating own text can be based on the plot. The plot can be considered as a cultural and mental phenomenon, the author’s vision of meta-concepts which reflect an integrated cultural environment and expanding the boundaries of subjectivity. The plot refers to the traditional cultural environment in its subjective form on the one hand and in its static national form of culture on the other. The plot strives for a different cultural picture of the world, while maintaining an understanding of the national-and-cultural basis of the cultural picture of the world. The research is aimed at studying the plot as a way to create own text. The description is carried out in a theoretical, practicaland algorithmic aspect based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The results of the study are presented in the form of developing the algorithm for studying the plot in tabular form as a way to create own text based on linguistic, cultural and mental characteristics that are associated with national ones. The practical applicability of the results lies in the possibility of using the plot learning algorithm as a way to create one’s own text.

On the problem of translation (using the example of the meaning of the term “text”)

Arustamyan D.G., Kharatokova M.G.

Abstract

the main purpose of this article is to define the term text, as the existing description is misleading and does not answer the main question of what the text is, both linguistically and philosophically. To solve this problem, the authors propose an alternative, allegorical or figurative form of information presentation. Based on this, they came to the conclusion that text is a physical medium itself, which can be used as an object for storing and transmitting a volume of information with unlimited (symbolic and graphical) content, which carries information of a contractual nature with a common understanding for all participants.

Epithets as status indicators in the speech of English-speaking leaders

Kadilnikova L.A.

Abstract

the article is devoted to the study of the epithet functioning as a marker of social status in administrative discourse. The relevance of the work is determined by the need to study this linguistic category in the context of status-oriented communication. The aim of the study is to identify and comprehensively analyze the status-marking functions of the epithet in administrative discourse. The study identified and analyzed four main functions of the epithet in status-marked communication: attributive-classifying, figurative-artistic, emotive-evaluative and argumentative-persuasive. Practical analysis has shown that epithets in the speech of managers serve as an instrument of institutional dominance, a means of accumulating symbolic capital and a mechanism of discursive coercion. The obtained results testify to the transformation of the epithet from a means of artistic expression into an effective technique for constructing and maintaining power asymmetry in administrative discourse. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of applying its results in the field of corporate communications, in training managers, in teaching business English, as well as in the field of intercultural communication. The identified patterns can be used to develop practical recommendations for the effective use of epithets in managerial speech.

The relevance of the research is due to the need to preserve and study the linguistic heritage of the peoples of Dagestan, which contains unique information about the historical, cultural and economic experience of the ethnic group. The material for the study was a corpus of oronyms collected in mountainous Dagestan. Descriptive, comparative, linguocultural and etymological methods were used in the work. It has been established that the Avar oronymic system is highly structured and is based on the key toponyms gohI ("hill") and megIer ("mountain"), which form serial names. The main semantic groups of oronyms have been identified and classified, describing natural characteristics, size, location, flora and fauna, as well as reflecting economic activity, history, social structure (anthroponymic and ethnonymic names) and the spiritual culture of the Avar people. The scientific novelty lies in a systematic approach to the study of oronyms as ethnocultural markers. The results of the study confirm that geographical names form a multi-layered text encoding the worldview and historical memory of their creators. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using its materials in fundamental works on Caucasian studies, in compiling dictionaries and in local history work.

"Self-criticism of the word" in Graham Greene's novel "The Quiet American"

Portnyagin D.V.

Abstract

the article analyzes Graham Greene's novel "The Quiet American" (1955) as a metaprose text, the central issue of which is the exploration of the possibilities and limitations of writing in its relation to reality. The study argues that the novel consistently implements the "self-criticism of the word" – a key concept in M.M. Bakhtin's poetics – by reflecting on various discursive practices (news reporting, political treatise, poetry, private correspondence) and demonstrating their inadequacy or bias in attempting to adequately represent the complex political and cultural reality of Vietnam. The conflict between the main characters, the English journalist Fowler and the American diplomat Pyle, is interpreted not only as ideological or personal but also as epistemological: it reveals the contradiction between cynical disbelief in the representational potential of the text and its idealization.

The concepts of "labor" and "laziness" in the Mansi language worldview: based on the material of author's and folk tales

Albina O.R.

Abstract

this article examines the representation of the concepts of "labor" and "laziness" in the Mansi language worldview through the prism of author's and folk tales. The relevance of the work is due to the increasing interest of linguoculturology in the ethnic peculiarities of perception of key concepts of human existence. The purpose of the study is to identify the specifics of understanding and evaluating work and laziness as interrelated and opposed categories in the Mansi culture. The scientific novelty lies in a comprehensive analysis of both traditional folklore and the author's works of Mansi writers, which allows us to trace the transformation and stability of these concepts. The methodological basis is based on the methods of conceptual, contextual and comparative analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the concept of "labor" in the Mansi tradition is sacralized and closely linked to the harmony of man and nature, being a condition for survival and respect. "Laziness" is understood not just as a vice, but as a threat to the world order, leading to exile and death. The author's fairy tales preserve this ethnic specificity, adapting it to the modern context.

Cognitive model "AI IS A DANGER" as a mechanism of verbalization of the ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE concept in modern English-language media discourse

Shekhovtseva T.M., Kamyshanchenko E.A., Strakhova K.A.

Abstract

the aim of the work is to analyze the mechanism of verbalization of the ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE concept in modern English-language media discourse using the cognitive model AI IS A DANGER. The relevance of the study is due to the growing interest in the multifaceted study of the ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE concept, as well as insufficient study of the mechanisms of its metaphorization in the English-language mass media. About 250 contexts from periodicals The Guardian and the news site Inside Higher Ed were analyzed. The authors employed a continuous sampling method, contextual analysis, and cognitive-discursive interpretation of metaphor, which determines how the concept is understood in English-language media discourse. Within the AI IS A DANGER model, the conceptual metaphors AI IS A VIRUS, AI IS A NUCLEAR DISASTER, and AI IS A NATURAL DISASTER were examined. The use of conceptual metaphors enhances the semantic load and emotional coloring of a media text, as evidenced by the multifaceted nature of the identified conceptual metaphors and their diverse axiological orientation. The analyzed factual material confirmed the conclusion that metaphor is an effective means of pragmatic influence.
