Some aspects of the valence of the infinitive in the context of the ergative basis of the Russian language

Baluta A.A.

Abstract

the article examines the functional and grammatical features of infinitive constructions in the history of the Russian literary language in comparison with dialectal variants, and identifies individual traces of the ergative structure in modern Russian. According to the results of the study, it can be concluded that constructions with the Nominative case of the direct complement with the infinitive were well-spread in the Old Russian language and are still used in a number of Northern Russian dialects. Russian nominative forms presented in the article can be considered as traces of the ancient ergative structure in the history of the Russian language and partially correlate such a Nominative with the Absolute case of the patient in ergative languages, for example, in Sumerian. Regarding the selective combination of such a nominative case with feminine forms of nouns, an analogy can be drawn with the process of formation of the grammatical category of animateness-inanimateness in the history of the Russian language. Another feature related to the use of constructions "Infinitive in combination with a name in the Nominative case as part of impersonal sentences" requires a closer study of such phenomena of the Old Russian language and its dialectal forms as constructions of the impersonal passive, which were also well-known in ancient ergative languages, for example, in Sumerian. But this topic requires a separate and more in-depth study.

The concept of food in English and French linguocultures: national specificities, translation aspects

Sosunova G.A., Rossikhina O.G.

Abstract

the subject of the research is the concept of food in English and French linguistic cultures. The functioning of the notion of concept, in the diachronic aspect as well, and its interpretation in modern linguistics are considered. The authors analyze publications which deal with the problems of concepts in various types of discourses, with the focus on the relationship between the notion of concept and linguoculture. It is noted that the concept of food, being a universal link in the culture of everyday life of any nation, has the greatest cultural and household stability and national specificity, which is expressed in the ability to represent key information about the surrounding world by speakers of a certain linguistic culture. It has been established that the specificity of the concept of food is expressed in every day consciousness, based on the acquisition of life experience by representatives of a certain society. The literal translation of statements with the concept of food from English and French into Russian highlights the system of values and traditions in various linguistic cultures, and at the same time suggests a Russian analogy of this expression, taking into account the equivalence of translation as a common semantic content. The results of this study can be used in research activities related to the study of concepts in the context of cultural dialogue.

Semantics of phraseological units with numerals in the English and Chinese languages

Nasilevich Y.G., Sultanova A.N., Degtyareva E.M.

Abstract

the relevance of foreign-language phraseological units as an object of research is due to their significant role not only in the formation of expressive coloration of speech, but also in a deeper understanding of the national and cultural specifics of a particular language and its speakers. Phraseological units with numeral components are of particular interest, since their semantics contains two semantic layers at once: the literal lexical meaning of the numeral and the symbolic, metaphorical meaning, which, through the interpretation of the numerical component, determines the meaning of a particular stable expression. Thus, the purpose of this work is to identify the specifics of the numbering components in the phraseological units of the English and Chinese languages. The methods of linguistic analysis and comparative phraseology allow us to conclude that in English phraseological units with components "one" and "two" are the most common, while numerals greater than ten are extremely rarely used. In Chinese, however, a significant number of phraseological units with the numerals "ten", "one hundred", "one thousand" and "ten thousand" are used, and there is also a predominantly paired use of any numerical components. The analysis of the functional component allows us to conclude that the metaphorical meanings of the numerical components of phraseological units in both languages include an indefinite large or small number, generality, uniqueness, opposition, as well as qualitative and evaluative characteristics.

The impact of extralinguistic factors on borrowings in stable combinations of the Lezgian language

Akhmedbekova I.A.

Abstract

the article examines the influence of extralinguistic factors on borrowings in stable combinations using the example of the Lezgian language. It is noted that borrowings are observed from Arabic, Persian and Turkic languages. However, borrowings from the Azerbaijani language, which belongs to the Turkic language family, are the most active and productive in stable combinations of the Lezgian language. Often in the speech behavior of Lezgins, it is possible to use borrowed components, and sometimes a number of combinations from this language. An important role in the rapprochement of the two peoples, Lezgian and Azerbaijani, and the interaction of their languages was played by a common religious affiliation, which predetermined the commonality of almost all religious rituals and traditions. The root causes of borrowings lead to the identification of the historical past of the peoples of the contacting languages, a comprehensive analysis of the political, socio-economic and cultural level of development of public life, as well as their religious affiliation. There is no rigid connection between linguistic kinship and the socio-historical community of peoples. Peoples who speak unrelated languages may have significant socio-historical and cultural affinity of an areal nature.

Literary and folklore traditions in "Motley Tales" by V.F. Odoevsky

Puchkova E.V.

Abstract

this article examines the influence of literary and folklore traditions on the plots, images, and motives of fairy tales in the cycle "Motley Tales" by Vladimir Odoevsky. The purpose of the study was to identify the features of the literary fairy tale in Odoevsky's work using several works from "Motley Tales" – "The Tale of How Dangerous it is for Girls to Walk in a Crowd Along Nevsky Prospect" and "The Same Tale, Only with a Twist". To achieve this goal, it was necessary to determine how these tales combine artistic elements characteristic of romanticism and folklore. The study used methods of literary analysis, descriptive, and cultural-historical methods. The article asserts that the uniqueness of V.F. Odoevsky's fairy tales is due to the interaction of elements of romanticism, Russian folklore and domestic reality of the 30s of the XIX century, as well as the influence of the literary context (Pushkin, Hoffmann) and the author's own worldview (the tendency to explain everything "supernatural" based on the achievements of science). Fairy tale motifs that form the plot are given a romantic interpretation by Odoevsky and are based on realistic material.

Significant aspects of conveying religious realias (based on Arabic translations of A.P. Chekhov’s stories)

Yegny H.

Abstract

transferance of religious realities in the process of translating literary texts from Russian into Arabic presents significant difficulties due to the differences between the two linguistic cultures under consideration, as well as due to differences in the religions professed, which predetermine certain peculiarities of the members of society worldview. Translating works of classical Russian literature into the Arabic language, it is necessary to take into account the system of values shared by the representatives of Russian and Arabic linguocultures. Errors and gaps that arise in the process of translating religious realias are explained by the translator’s attempt to use primarily the strategy of domestication, which leads to the complete loss of national-cultural specificity in Russian-language literary texts, as well as an attempt to replace Christian concepts and terms with their Islamic correlates.

the relevance of the research is due to the fact that the somatic metaphor is actively used in modern English-language political discourse. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the author examines the peculiarities of the functioning of the somatic metaphor with the lexeme heart in modern English political discourse. The purpose of the study is to analyze the features of the functioning of the somatic metaphor in modern English-language political discourse using the example of a somatic metaphor with the lexeme heart. The result of the study is a conclusion about the peculiarities of the functioning of the somatic metaphor with the lexeme heart in the speech of modern politicians who are native English speakers. The research leads to the conclusion that: a) under a somatic metaphor, it is necessary to understand one in which the bodily manifestations of a person are represented, with the use of names of body parts, physiological reactions, gestures, facial expressions, poses, as well as a variety of emotional reactions and mental manifestations; b) political discourse should be understood as the whole complex of speech acts that are used in political discussions and other official political manifestations, while the main purpose of political discourse is the need to convince and motivate society or individuals to take actions necessary or desirable for a politician or a political party; c) somatic metaphor is an integral part of political discourse: being one of the most ancient varieties of metaphorical transference, somatic metaphor is intuitive for most native speakers, which results in its high popularity in English-speaking political discourse.

Yakovleva P.P.

Abstract

this paper analyzes the word forms of court nominations within the framework of the comparative historical research method in terms of borrowings, morphological and semantic transformations of terms based on the material of English, French and Russian languages. As a result of the study, three historical periods are distinguished as stages of military, cultural and trade relations and their respective influence on the formation of the terminological base of maritime transport. Such methods of terminology formation as borrowings, affixation, word composition, including the lexical blending method, abbreviation, change of meaning, as well as the differentiation of new concepts by creating stable phrases are considered. In the process of analysis, the gradation of inflection and analyticism of the above Indo-European languages in the field of water transport is highlighted, where Russian comes first, followed by French and English. To compare dictionary units, a table of more than a hundred ship nominations and a table of word-formation models of watercraft terms were compiled, statistical correspondence of borrowings was derived, and historical and cultural aspects of the processes of terminology formation were considered.

The components of a journalist's digital identity

Gavrilov V.V.

Abstract

the article attempts to determine the basic characteristics / digital personality of a journalist. The theoretical part of the article highlights the interest in the scientific world to the problem of media personality and the lack of a common understanding of which parameters of digital personality are relevant in the context of media digitalization, and how they should be shaped. The social order for a new type of journalist is formulated in general terms. However, an analysis of the survey data (2024 – early 2025, 98 respondents, journalism students from Ural Federal District universities, media educators, and professional journalists aged 18 to 60) revealed a contradiction between the social order and the media actors' vision of the digital personality. Modern journalists do not see all the threats of media digitalization, and they are not ready to use the full range of digital tools to increase the effectiveness of media production and successfully compete with citizen journalists, although they recognize the important role of digital technologies in mass media. It is concluded that it is necessary to adjust the training system for journalism students in higher education in order to help them master the necessary digital tools to counter digital threats and for future successful professionalization and creative self-realization.

Productive models of composite formation in modern German language

Kochurova S.V., Ivanova T.K.

Abstract

purpose of the study: to study complex new formations borrowed into the German language from other languages, to identify different models of the emergence of complex words with a borrowed component. The article examines the morphological classification of composites with a borrowed component in the German language, analyzes their productivity and structural variability. During the study, complex words with different sequences of parts of speech in their composition were identified and analyzed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that it develops the theoretical foundations of the composition of words of foreign origin, as well as the problems of structuring composites. Research in this area opens up new perspectives for a thorough study of previously mentioned words, given that in the German language compounding is one of the main ways of word production. Despite some existing research in German word formation, this issue has not yet been fully studied, since the vocabulary is constantly being updated. The tendency to increase the number of complex words due to autochthonous borrowed elements presents almost limitless possibilities in determining the originality of word composition. As a result of the study, it was established that most of the complex words with borrowed components in the German language are nouns, the main core of which is also this part of speech. In addition, it has been determined that the majority model of word production is a binary construction.
