Peculiarities of Lexico-Syntactic Word-Formation in the Contemporary Italian Language: Criteria of Identification and Productivity of Multi-Word Expressions (Polirematiche)
Resumo
The article examines the peculiarities of multi-word expressions (polirematiche) in the contemporary Italian language. The author considers characteristic semantic, structural and functional properties of multiword expressions and the criteria for their distinction from similar linguistic units (composite words, collocations, phraseologisms). The article goes on to characterise major factors of productivity of phrasemic word-formation in the Italian language. The research is based on summary of most recent relevant literature in the Italian linguists.

Double Modal Combinations of the 20th–21st Centuries (sociolinguistic aspect)
Resumo
This article looks into the sociolinguistic aspect of double modality. The most frequent combinations, attested through the corpus-based method, were subjected to a sociolinguistic analysis to see how age, gender and level of education of the respondents influence presence of double modality in their speech. We state geographical expansion of the phenomenon, its acceptance by various gender and age groups and its usage in different types of discourse and speech situations.

Notional Agreement in Modern English and Semantics of Compositionality of the Subject
Resumo
The article looks into notional agreement and suggests a revised understanding of compositionality as a semantic dominant of the noun-subject in grammatical clauses - representatives of notional agreement. To justify homonymy in some groups of compositional nouns, semantic, contextual and conceptual methods of analysis are employed. The relevance of the study is determined by the lack of consistency and completeness in the present-day grammatical descriptions available.

Relevance and Salience of Word Meaning Components Reflected in Derivational Processes: To a Research Methodology
Resumo
It is suggested to use derivational data (semantic, morphological and syntactic derivatives of a word) in revealing and distinguishing relevant and salient word meaning components. The methodology tested on the English word sand allowed revealing salient and relevant components in its meaning comparing them with the features reflected in its lexicographic definitions.

Realization of Subjective Modality in the Syntax of Political Online Media Discourse
Resumo
Against the background of widespread digitalization, the influence of the political online media discourse that exists on various blog platforms is increasing. Publications in the accounts of political and public figures serve as a source of information and a tool for manipulating public opinion. The subjective authorial modality of political media discourse in blog posts is realized by a variety of syntactic means, the need to study which is obvious considering the growing influence of political media communication on political processes.

The purpose of the article is to reveal the technology of information-psychological impact on the audience in terms of mass communication and to highlight the methods and techniques of information-psychological warfare in the media space on current examples of verbal and multimodal texts. The article applies descriptive, synchronic, semasiological and functional methods, as well as methods of metaphorical modeling, component, contextual and communicative-pragmatic analysis.

The Main Ways of Forming New Lexical Units in the American Press
Resumo
The article uses examples from American newspapers to show that the vocabulary of the language is replenished with new words that are used in the media and advertising, in the speech of politicians and public figures. Some new lexical units from the mass media of the United States of America are considered and the ways of their formation are revealed, while all examples are taken from various newspaper thematic groups. The most frequent ways of forming new words are abbreviation, contamination, word composition, word combination.

Resumo
The article examines the English Internet discourse of bloggers engaged in interpreting mass culture works as well as the so-called “participatory culture”. The study is carried out from the perspective of semiotics and hermeneutics and at the same time in line with the cognitive concept of human creativity. English-language posts in blogs were used as the research base. The article contains conclusions based on the study of empirical material.

Semantics of Peripheral Coordinators (on the example of French items en fait, de fait, en effet, effectivement)
Resumo
The functioning of the French lexemes en fait, de fait, en effet and effectivement in the initial position between two independent sentences is considered. It is revealed that the listed units act as analogues of the coordinating conjunctions car and mais. A tendency has been established to use the more frequent units en effet and en fait to denote predominantly causal relations, the less frequent units de fait and effectivement to indicate the adversative relations.

The Use of Dative Objects in the Gothic Language: the Objective Dative
Resumo
The article looks into the use of Dative objects in the Gothic language. Special attention is paid to the so-called objective Dative and its place within the system of the subject-object relations of the language in question. Verbs governing the objective Dative require a single obligatory non-prepositional Dative object. With such an approach to the objective Dative, this class of Gothic verbs proves to be quite productive. The author comes to the conclusion that the objective Dative and the Accusative case have equal status in the Gothic language.

Expressive Ethnonyms of Mexico: Actualization of Hetero-Images
Resumo
The article deals with characteristic features of expressive ethnic nomination in the Spanish language, based on its Iberian and Mexican national variants. It carries out a linguistic and cultural analysis of hetero-images associated with naming the US residents and Spaniards by Mexicans. The article concludes that the development of semantics and evaluative connotations in the studied units directly depends on ethnic stereotypes formed in the course of relationship between the countries in history.

Argumentative Potential of Word Order in Written Scientific Discourse (on the Material of the German Language)
Resumo
The article presents a study of word order as one of the elements of building the written scientific discourse from the standpoint of the cognitive-discursive approach. The discursive potential of word order is analyzed in the implementation of tactical moves of the argumentative strategy (in cases of replacing the initial position of a German sentence in active and passive structures, in cases of rearranging theme and rheme in the actual division of a sentence) on the material of German scientific articles in the humanities sciences.

Functioning and Structure of Sound Repetitions in Artistic Style Texts
Resumo
The article is devoted to the study of sound repetition in artistic style texts. The main models of this type of duplication are highlighted, the multidimensional functions performed by it in the discourse of a work of art are considered. Methodologically, the study is based on a comprehensive approach, including the method of linguistic observation and description, the actual material for which was the texts of the artistic style of the modern Russian literary language, containing the facts of sound repetition.

The article is devoted to the study of the features of the implementation of evaluation of precedent phenomena in modern German publicistic discourse. The author conducts the ways of citing precedent phenomena, various sources of their origin. The study allows to identify the relationship of precedent phenomena in journalistic texts, the expression of the category of appraisal and the impact on the perception of the text by the recipient.

The article deals with the situation of triglossia in Luxembourg. It providees a brief historical review which helps trace the emergence of multiculturalism and multilingualism in Luxembourg. The article gives a short etymological analysis of the words “Luxembourg” and “Luxembourgish”, considers the language status of the three official languages in Luxembourg within the functional spectrum, lists the main linguistic features of Luxembourgish within vocalism and consonantism.

Actualizing Cognitive Dissonance in Similarity-Based Stylistic Devices
Resumo
The article focuses on the potential of such stylistic devices as metaphor, simile and personification in creating cognitive dissonance. These literary devices are constructed on the basis of the mechanism of similarity and involve comparing two objects. The analysis of the material conducted via the scheme of conceptual integration made it possible to identify which features in the structure of the blend distinguish local dissonance phenomena and to determine the conditions under which the studied stylistic means create cognitive dissonance.

Event Frame as Cognitive Schema of Metaphorisation (English resultative and non-resultative constructions)
Resumo
The article seeks to present a variety of event frame build around the concept “state” as a cognitive schema of metaphorisation. The metaphoric schema is presumably a cross-domain mapping where relations between the source domain and the target domain are treated as specific event metaphors which inherit main features of abstract metaphors. Data of concept-based source domain are given as realized in resultative and non-resultative grammatical constructions.

Gestures-Illustrators with the Meaning of Contrast and Their Prosodic Correlates
Resumo
The article contains the results of the experiment based on perceptual and acoustic methods of analysis and modern computer programs. The author studies relationship between prosodic parameters of different kinds of antonyms and gestures-illustrators with the meaning of contrast in American academic discourse. High degree of correlation between gestures and prosody does not depend either on the kind of antonym, or gender factor. Invariants and variants of gestures with the meaning of contrast are described.

The Image of a Doctor and its Transformation in the Works of A. P. Chekhov
Resumo
The author traces the transformation of the image of the county doctor in the works of A. P. Chekhov, analyzes its causes. The purpose of the study is to characterize the personality qualities that the writer pays attention to while creating the image of a doctor. The work uses systematic, descriptive, comparative, cultural and historical methods of analysis. The material for the study was the stories «Ionich», «Belated Flowers», as well as the plays «Uncle Vanya» and «Three Sisters», in which the images of degrading doctors are comprehensively revealed. The characters-doctors in the analyzed works are characterized by: striving for material values, hypocrisy, selfishness, passivity, professional burnout, etc.

Resumo
In the article, within the framework of a study devoted to the “Buddhist text” of modern Russian literature, Buddhist ideas and motives in the work of F. Gorenstein are considered, the features of the author's perception of Buddhism and ways of its artistic development are determined. It also establishes the dual nature of the perception of the Buddhist religion, which is mentioned in Gorenstein's novels and short stories.In addition, it is recorded that the passages about Buddhism in the works of F. Gorenshtein are a significant part of the philosophical reflections of the author and characters in connection with the problem of the religious individuality of a Russian person.

Tallinn Tombstone of Pontus Delagardi: Text and Texts
Resumo
The article is devoted to one of the most significant Late Renaissance and Early Baroque tombstones in Swedish Estland - the tombstone of Pontus Delagardi. The article focuses on the epitaph text placed on the sarcophagus of Delagardi. Lexical and syntactic allusions introduced into it by the author allow us to speak of it as a Renaissance anthology of a number of mainly ancient texts, whose composition is determined by the author’s intention. The epitaph text of Pontus Delagardi, in turn, becomes the subject of anthologizing, significant in the context of the historiographical actualization in Sweden of the mid-second half of the 17th century of the idea of the Swedish Empire and the role of the Delagardi family in its formation and strengthening (historiographical works of Cl. Arrhenius, J. Widekindi).

The Motive of Punishment of Sinners in the Fine Art of the Romanesque Style
Resumo
This article is devoted to various interpretations of the motive of punishment of sinners at the Last Judgment in the Romanesque sculpture. Four examples were chosen: the tympanums of the Cathedral of Saint-Lazare in Autun and the Basilica of Sainte-Foy in Conques, the mosaic of the Church of the Ascension of Mary on the island of Torcello and the capitals of the church of Saint-Pierre in Chauvigny. The motive is realized in a wide range of artistic solutions - from symbolism to specifics, from metaphor to fiction.
