M. Gorky’s play «At the Bottom» on the Arabian stage (a history of its staging)
Abstract
Maxim Gorky's play «At the Bottom» had a significant impact on the development of the Arab theatrical tradition, becoming not only an object of stage adaptations, but also an important tool for comprehending acute social and philosophical problems. Themes such as poverty, social inequality, alienation and the search for human dignity proved to be close and relevant to Arab audiences, especially in the context of the colonial and post-colonial experience. Arab productions of “At the Bottom” have demonstrated the high potential of Gorky's work as a source for theatrical experimentation, creative interpretation and intercultural dialog. Arab directors and playwrights, adapting the play to local realities, emphasized the universality of its problems, while revealing the national peculiarities of the perception of social injustice. Thus, «At the Bottom» became not only an example of the artistic influence of Russian literature on the Arab theater, but also an important stage in the development of social realism in Arab dramaturgy. The play's influence is still felt today – it continues to inspire new authors, contributing to the formation of critical consciousness and stimulating public debate on issues of morality, freedom and social responsibility.

Anna Karenina as the tragic heroine of Leo Tolstoy's novel “Anna Karenina”
Abstract
an entire era of enormous historical significance with its hopes, passions, and worries is reflected in L.N. Tolstoy's book "Anna Karenina". At the same time, this diversity of the novel's content is given unity and integrity, cemented by three main ideas, three interrelated circles of themes and problems, which give grounds to characterize "Anna Karenina" as a family, social, and philosophical novel. The article examines the image of Anna Karenina as a tragic heroine, revealing the traits inherent in heroes of this type: uncompromisingness, sincerity, passion, and the logic of what happens to them. It is this interpretation of the image that helps to understand the ideological meaning of the novel. In addition, the article draws attention to the peculiarity of the novel's composition, its two heroes, as well as the antithesis, which has become the most important technique of the novel's poetics. The tragedy of Anna Karenina in its main content is associated with both the characteristics of her personality and the nature of her love. Tolstoy's novel presents different types of love, and not only those defined in Plato's work as "heavenly love" and "earthly love." The typology of love in Anna Karenina is more complex: here we can speak of at least two types of high love and several types of base love.

On some features of the poetics of A.I. Solzhenitsyn's book "The Gulag archipelago"
Abstract
the article examines the key aspects of the poetics of "The Gulag Archipelago" by A.I. Solzhenitsyn – a work that has become not only a literary but also a historical monument of the era of Soviet repression. Special attention is given to the innovative nature of the book, which combines features of artistic narrative, documentary research, and journalism. The authors analyze the place of "The Gulag Archipelago" in the context of camp prose, Solzhenitsyn's oeuvre, and 20th-century world literature, emphasizing its role in debunking myths about the Soviet system. A central focus of the study is the analysis of the title, which metaphorically reflects the essence of the Gulag as an "archipelago" – a fragmented yet unified system of camps existing parallel to the "mainland." The work's thematic concerns include issues of dehumanization under totalitarianism, spiritual resistance, and moral choice. Significant importance is attributed to the system of images, where each character, whether a victim, executioner, or witness, becomes part of a larger tragedy. The article investigates subject-object relationships that allow Solzhenitsyn to merge personal experience with historical chronicle. Particular emphasis is placed on the spatial-temporal organization of the text: the camp chronotope is presented as a closed anti-world, where time flows differently and space is confined by barbed wire. The interaction of "own" and "alien" voices in the narrative is also analyzed, where the author's voice coexists with testimonies of prisoners, documents, and even propaganda language. Two interrelated themes are highlighted as the ideological core: the destruction of the human soul in conditions of violence and its possible revival through spiritual awakening. The authors emphasize that Solzhenitsyn does not limit himself to denouncing the system – he offers the reader a path to understanding the tragedy based on Christian values and historical memory. The role of the author is interpreted as multifaceted: he acts as a chronicler, researcher, and preacher, linking "The Archipelago" to the traditions of ancient Russian literature and biblical parable. The article draws on the works of leading literary scholars (Zh. Niva, A. Urmanov, V. Kuritsyn) and includes a comparative analysis with other works on the camp theme (V. Shalamov). It is noted that "The Gulag Archipelago" remains relevant not only as a historical document but also as a literary text, where form and content create a unique synthesis. This work represents a systematic study of Solzhenitsyn's poetics, encompassing genre, structural, and semantic analyses. The materials of the article may be useful for philologists, historians, and anyone interested in literature about totalitarianism and the artistic interpretation of the tragic events of the 20th century.

The narrative functioning of virtual reality in Philip K. Dick’s novel «A Maze of Death»
Abstract
the article deals with the peculiarities of virtual reality functioning in the novel of American science fiction writer Philip K. Dick «A Maze of Death». The choice of the research material is conditioned by the fact that virtual reality in this text becomes a tool for discussing philosophical and religious motifs key for the writer. The article explores the issues of transformation of reality perception in a situation of radical onto-logical uncertainty, which arises with the destruction of a polyence-phaletic simulation world, a product of interaction between human consciousness and computer system. Special attention is paid to the system of character names as one of the tools of symbolic organisation of the artistic world. The research methodology is represented by a review of critical works devoted both to the works of Philip K. Dick in general and to the religious and philosophical aspects of his heritage in particular. The analysis reveals that virtual reality in the novel functions, on the one hand, as a recreational-therapeutic zone for smoothing out the consequences of psycho-emotional tension of the characters trapped in the ‘generation ship’ lost in space; on the other hand, as a form of ontological testing, reflecting the existential crisis experienced due to the loss of a stable picture of the world and the search for metaphysical meaning.

Single-dicteme unparcellated introductory unit in the short stories by K. Mansfield
Abstract
the paper analyzes the monodictemic unparcellated introductory units in the literary works of the famous British short story writer Katherine Mansfield. A monodictemic unparcellated introductory unit is a structurally uncomplicated elementary type of the beginnings of a literary work, graphically framed in one paragraph and united by one microtheme. The introductory segment of the short story is considered on the concept of a dicteme, which has a specific textual function. Scientific research in the field of paradigmatic syntax, one of the directions of which was the doctrine of the dictemic organization of the text, opened up additional possibilities for studying the individual style of the author of a literary work. Thus, the work allows us to look at the problem of describing the writer’s individual style from a new perspective, considering it from the standpoint of the syntactic theory of the text. This is the novelty of the conducted research. The purpose of this work is to study the text-organizing potential of a single-dicteme unparcellated introductory unit in K. Mansfield’s stories. As a result of the analysis of the practical material, the frequency of single-topic unparcellated introductory units in the works of the English writer was disclosed, structural and thematic variants of the introductory units of this type were identified, the features of their organization were revealed, and their text-organizing potential was described.

Lexico-semantic characteristics of urbanonyms of Chinese parks
Abstract
this article is dedicated to the analysis of urbanonyms – names of urban objects – based on the example of city parks in China. Urbanonyms are considered an essential part of the lexical-semantic space of the language, reflecting the cultural, historical, and ideological characteristics of a people. In Chinese culture, parks hold a special significance as embodiments of the philosophy of harmony between humans and nature. The study is based on an interdisciplinary approach that combines methods from lexicology, onomastics, and cultural studies. A total of 94 park names were analyzed, selected through continuous sampling from various regions across China. The main focus is on identifying and classifying the key factors influencing urbanonym nomination. Eight criteria were identified: references to nature, landscape features, geographic location, commemoration of historical figures, traditional and modern Chinese values, mention of animals and birds, expression of human emotions and sensations, and references to international relations. The most frequent categories included urbanonyms reflecting landscape characteristics (26%) and the park's geographic location (22%). The analysis demonstrates that Chinese urbanonyms serve not only nominative but also descriptive, ideological, and cultural functions. Therefore, the names of Chinese city parks provide valuable insight into the national worldview and linguistic representation of cultural values and symbols of the Chinese people.

Vocabulary of the Lak language from the point of view of the sphere of use
Abstract
an important role in the formation of the national lexical fund was played by the fact that, from the early Middle Ages to the present day, the Laks had their own single political and cultural center, and it is important to emphasize that the center was concentrated throughout this period in the same place – Kumukh. Due to this circumstance, the most socially active part of the Lak population has always been bilingual, that is, in addition to their dialect, they also knew the national language to one degree or another. The vocabulary of a limited sphere of use is usually divided into dialectisms and professionalisms. In the Lak language as a whole, the following functional styles are distinguished: spoken style, neutral style and book style, respectively, the vocabulary used in these styles stands out. Among the lexical units used in colloquial style, in turn, it is customary to distinguish colloquial vocabulary, vernacular vocabulary and roughly vernacular, although it should be noted that it is not always possible to establish a sharp boundary between these groups of words.

Onomastic realities in modern dystopia (based on the trilogy by S. Collins The Hunger Games)
Abstract
the article examines the onomastic realities of Suzanne Collins' trilogy The Hunger Games, functioning within the framework of the dystopian genre. The analysis demonstrates that anthroponyms, toponyms, names of objects, institutions, events, and biological species are key elements in creating an alternative world – Panem. Special attention is paid to the etymology and symbolic meaning of the anthroponyms of the main characters, such as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, as well as the analysis of the author's neologisms reflecting the themes of control, violence and resistance. The paper is based on the classification by A.V. Superanskaya, onyms are classified on the base of the designated object nature. Anthroponyms and toponyms are most represented in the novels due to the genre specifics of the work and the author's goal to create a deeply elaborated and recognizable fictional reality. As a result, the study reveals how linguistic means, onyms in particular, contribute to the realization of the author's idea and an in-depth understanding of the socio-cultural and political realities of the dystopian world.

The evolution of media discourse: from socio-historical foundations to digital transformation and new research horizons
Abstract
the article presents a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of media discourse: from classical theoretical conceptions to contemporary transformations in the digital era. The research is based on an interdisciplinary synthesis of methods from critical discourse analysis, semiotics, and the institutional approach. This enables the revelation of the multifaceted nature of media discourse as a socio-communicative phenomenon. The historical development of the concept of media discourse is traced through shifts in theoretical paradigms: from understanding discourse as a socio-historical practice to its interpretation as a communicative event and a complex semiotic system. The contribution of various scientific schools to the formation of comprehensive approaches to studying media discourse as a system of communicative practices is examined. Key transformations of media discourse under digitalization are analyzed: the shift from a hierarchical model of communication to a network structure, genre hybridization, multi-modality, hypertextuality, and interactivity. The influence of platform capitalism, algorithmization, and artificial intelligence on the processes of media content creation and dissemination is investigated.

Anglicisms in the official documentation of the Ministry of Education of Russia in the context of linguistic politics of 2023: from freedom to borrow towards normative selection
Abstract
the article examines the specifics of the functioning of English-language borrowings in the official communication of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation against the background of the ongoing policy of digitalization and the implementation of international educational initiatives. Special attention is paid to the consequences of amendments to the Federal Law "On the State Language of the Russian Federation" (Federal Law No. 52-FZ dated 02/28/2023), according to which, from 2023, the use of foreign-language words in official documentation is prohibited, with the exception of those that do not have commonly used Russian-language analogues. Based on the analysis of regulatory and strategic documents of the Ministry of Education and Science published in 2020-2025, a reduction in the volume of Anglicisms in official speech and a transition to a more selective and functionally justified use of borrowed vocabulary were revealed. The article substantiates that in modern conditions, lexemes associated with the concepts of digitalization, cross-border education, competence management and technological modernization, which have no adequate analogues in the Russian language, remain in use. The main functions of such Anglicisms are highlighted: nominative, terminological and image-based. It is concluded that modern language policy contributes to the formation of normative boundaries of professional vocabulary in the field of education.

Features of translating Soviet political texts
Abstract
the article presents a comprehensive study of the linguistic and cultural-pragmatic aspects of translating Soviet political texts, based on material from F. Chuev’s book One Hundred and Forty Conversations with Molotov (1991) and speeches by key Soviet leaders: V.I. Lenin, I.V. Stalin, and L.I. Brezhnev. The primary focus is on analyzing strategies for rendering ideologically charged vocabulary, metaphors, cultural-specific concepts (realia), and syntactic structures characteristic of Soviet political discourse. The methodological framework includes a comparative analysis of originals and translations, a contextual approach to interpreting ideological terminology, and a linguo-stylistic examination of rhetorical devices. The results demonstrate that successful translation of Soviet texts requires not only linguistic precision but also a profound understanding of historical-cultural context and the pragmatic objectives of communication. Specifically, it is shown that calquing ideological terms and literal translation of metaphors help preserve the rhetorical force of the originals. Special attention is given to the adaptation of Soviet realia, where a combination of transliteration and contextual explanations ensures their integration into foreign-language contexts. The practical significance of the study lies in the development of guidelines for translators working with historical-political texts, as well as in providing tools for analyzing Soviet discourse within cultural and historical research frameworks. The article contributes to interdisciplinary scholarship by integrating methods from linguistics, history, and translation studies, while also opening avenues for further exploration of the reception of Soviet rhetoric in international academic discourse.

Conceptualization of humanism in A. Green's novel "The Golden Chain"
Abstract
the article examines the conceptualization of axiological dominants in literary discourse. The aim is to study the conceptualization of humanism in the novel "The Golden Chain" by Russian writer Alexander Green. Research methods: frequency analysis, contextual analysis, linguistic and hermeneutic analysis. The discourse is presented as an actualization of the interaction of text structures with extralinguistic factors, which is crucial for the processes of perception and understanding of information. The main points of the fictional world are the key words (key concepts) that define the axiological dominants and the conceptual sphere of fictional unity. Correlative connections arise between the conceptual paradigm and the heuristic potential, which play an important role in the process of studying fictional discourse. The fundamental concepts determine the functioning features of fictional discourse. Frequency words and analysis of the vocabulary and text make it possible to identify thematic groups considered from the perspective of an idea (S.G. Vorkachev). They include the following concepts: friendship, love, home, time, word, action. As a result, important categories based on humanism are identified. The meanings representing the concepts are revealed. The given examples illustrate the statements under consideration. The results of the research can be used in educational courses on language theory, discourse theory, stylistics, text interpretation. The data obtained can be used in the process of studying the conceptual sphere of fictional discourse.

Grammatical and syntactic transformations in translation from Russian into both Arabic and English: substantiation of identity
Abstract
the purpose of this article is to support translation activity and embroaden theoretical knowledge about similarities in unrelated languages. Using the Russian original text and professional translations of Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita", we identify, demonstrate and substantiate grammatical and syntactic transformations that are equally suitable for use in translation from Russian into such unrelated languages as both English and Arabic. As the basis for classification, we take the Arabic grammatical tense forms. As a result of the comparative analysis, we identify grammatical transformations that are typical for certain grammatical tenses in all the three languages.

Cognitive-pragmatic foundations of the discursive nature of euphemism
Abstract
this study offers a methodological rethinking of euphemism as a dynamic, context-dependent, and functionally charged phenomenon that extends beyond the traditional lexical-semantic approach. Euphemism is viewed not as an isolated linguistic unit, but as an element of a broader communicative process embodied in the form of euphemistic discourse. The article proposes a new understanding of euphemistic discourse, defined as a set of linguistic, cognitive, and pragmatic strategies aimed at mitigating, circumventing, and adapting socially sensitive information within modal and normative constraints. Within the framework of cognitive-discursive and pragmatic approaches, euphemism is analyzed as a means of communicative regulation, ensuring a balance between personal affect, institutional restraint, and the demands of public acceptability. As an empirical basis, the article examines a fragment from an interview with Prince Harry, rich in euphemistic strategies that illustrate the mechanisms of adapting speech behavior in conditions of public vulnerability and social tension. The analysis demonstrates that euphemization in this context serves not only a communicative but also a representational and ethical-protective function, highlighting the potential of euphemistic discourse as a multi-layered form of symbolic interaction.

The concept of "road" in the epic novel by L.N. Tolstoy "War and Peace" and the story by N.S. Leskov "The Enchanted Wanderer"
Abstract
this article examines the road motif in L.N. Tolstoy's novel War and Peace and N.S. Leskov's story The Enchanted Wanderer. Tolstoy's novel is rich in motifs, however, the road motif is associated with each character in the novel. The refraction of this theme in the artistic narrative of contemporary writers is of great interest. The article emphasizes the semantic content of the road discourse in both writers. This work contrasts the literal and symbolic meanings of the road image in two Russian prose writers of the 19th century. The article examines the paths-roads of both the main and secondary characters in Tolstoy's epic novel and Leskov's story. The author of the article outlines the state of the study of this issue in modern science, appealing to the works of recent years, which generalized the significance of the road discourse in many Russian writers of the 19th century.

Pragmalinguistic features of oral speech of Soviet and Russian youth
Abstract
the article presents the results of a study of the oral speech of Soviet and modern Russian young people aged 13 to 23. The transcripts were compared using the author's method of pragmalinguistic analysis. It was shown that Soviet schoolchildren and students used significantly more author's syntagmas, occasionalisms, proverbs and sayings, phraseological units, catchphrases, aphorisms and other types of quotation, as well as words with a connotative meaning in their speech. And vice versa – they allowed significantly fewer vulgarisms, officialisms, obscene vocabulary, speech errors, truisms and cliches. The study clearly demonstrates the difference between the speech of young people of the pre-digital and modern eras. The norm of proficiency in Russian among modern teenagers is noticeably lower compared to their Soviet peers. The obtained results correlate with the data of parallel studies of the oral and written speech of representatives of the Soviet and modern eras. Previously, the author of this article analyzed speech samples of professional authors of media communications, heroes of films and TV series of the designated periods. In addition, school essays of young consumers of Soviet and modern media content were analyzed. It is shown how speech samples for imitation broadcast by authors of media communications influence the speech of the younger generation.

Research of meteorological vocabulary (based on phraseological units of the Russian and Chinese languages)
Abstract
the article is devoted to the comparative analysis of meteorological phraseological units (PU) in the Russian and Chinese languages based on cognitive linguistics and linguacultural approach. The purpose of the study is to identify allomorphism and isomorphism in metaphorical models reflecting the perception of natural phenomena in different cultures. As the study showed, the phraseological units of the Russian language reflect personal experience, reflected in familiar life situations. In the Chinese language, weather phenomena are integrated into a complex conceptual system, in which the natural is not so much a part of the description as a way of organizing meanings.
