The paper discusses the linguistic category of predicativity from the standpoint of translation. It is also suggested to differentiate between strictly linguistic and broader, interdisciplinary approaches in translation studies. On the one hand, the forms and ways of expressing predicative relations within a particular language pair would differ in terms of frequency of usage and stylistic marking, which leads to necessary and consistent transformations in translation. On the other hand, predicativity, being a functional and logical category, is a part of the translation invariant, thus requiring to be preserved in the course of the generation of the target text.
