Abstract
The article analyzes the early work of A. Barbusse, French author of the early twentieth century, and the role of the category of memory in the formation of his poetics. The analysis is carried out using biographical, comparative-typological, cultural-historical methods. The system of images of selected novels is analyzed; based on its dichotomous nature, the connection of the poles “individual - collective” with the categories of individual and collective memory is formulated.
