Abstract

In contrast to the widely known and thoroughly analyzed variants of the English language, Australian English is often perceived as much more ‘exotic’ and receives less attention. The paper analyses the way Russian Anglophones perceive the Australian variant of the English language (AuE) by ear in order to identify the ability to recognize phonetic and phonological subtleties of AuE which emphasize the individuality of this dialect with its unusual and rich history.
