Abstract

The paper explores systemic-functional characteristics of news information in Chinese and Russian web portals based on three discourse metafunctions (conceptual, interpersonal and compositional); both linguistic and visual (pictorial) modalities are considered. Contrastive analysis of systemic-functional characteristics of news articles with images helped identify the differences in multimodal context of web portals which appear in knowledge domains, news scale, news orientation, and information transfer type.
