Abstract

The article deals with the ways of linguistic representation of somatisms head, eyes, eyebrows. Using examples from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), the most frequent kinesic utterances are analyzed and the main communicative situations and emotional states in which they are realized are identified. It is assumed that the selected somatisms to a certain extent reflect the non-verbal behavior of representatives of the given ethnic culture. The paper indicates the relevance of this topic and its further in-depth study using a comparative method.
