Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze and compare the cognitive bases of categorization in English and Chinese using the example of LSG “part-whole”. The research is based on the hypothesis that in any linguistic lexical system there are cognitive dominants that determine the uniqueness of the semantics of lexical units and ensure the formation of semantic fields. Conceptualization shows that there are similar cognitive dominants in English and Chinese, but they are formed at different language levels and form different clusters.
