Abstract
Legal professionals of the whole world make use of the English legal language in different situations of the legal field. However, it is important to understand that during the process of historic development the English language experienced a significant influence of the Latin language. The article describes the influence of the Latin language on the development of the English legal vocabulary, classifies Latin borrowings on the basis of various criteria, analyses types of discourse where Latinisms are typically used as well as focuses on their functions in the modern English legal language.
