Abstract
The article focuses on Plattdeutsch, the so-called Low German, which includes dialects that are spread in the north of Germany. The article considers the geographical area of distribution and use of Low German, analyzes phonological feautures of the vocal system and consonant system, it gives phonological characteristics and provides examples from the systems of vocalism and consonantism. Using the method of comparative analysis and the method of linguistic analysis allows to establish some similarities and differences between Low German and the German pronunciation standard.
