Abstract
The paper considers possibilities of using the Cultural Models Theory to analyze literary texts with
the aim of identifying cultural norms. The study is based on English stories and literary essays. A
review of scientific sources has revealed that humour, politeness and personal boundaries are essential features of the English character, and that visits, collisions in the street, going out for a walk are important cultural models. Appliance of these cultural models, along with methods of structural and linguo-stylistic analysis, has shown that the English prioritize politeness above their personal space and that humour is a principle that organizes their life.
