Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of the image of the French, verbalized with the help of metaphors in the novels of modern French authors – Anna Gavalda and Francoise Sagan. The author traces the history of the study of metaphors in artistic discourse. The types of metaphors functioning in a literary text and their main typologies are considered. A description of the linguistic approach to the concept of “image” is given. The author studies the relationship between the concepts of “image” and “metaphor”. Based on the material of the novels “Just Together” by Anna Gavalda and “Hello Sadness” by Francoise Sagan, the author highlights the peripheral characteristics of the image of the French, conveyed through the prism of metaphors: emotionality, sensitivity and individualism.
