Abstract
The paper analyzes the prosodic characteristics in the speech of four British and four German politicians in course of public speaking, it also examines the role of prosody in verbal interaction with opponents and the audience. The results of auditory, acoustic and statistical analyses revealed the melodic, temporal and prosodic features of speech in English and German political discourse and their role in influencing the listener.
