Abstract

The article introduces to scholars the English translation, dating back to 1764, of the Russian scientific work by S. P. Krasheninnikov “The Description of Kamchatka”, published in St. Petersburgh in 1755. The study of the translation act and its strategy has revealed that James Grieve, the translator, was carrying out the task, set by the British government, who viewed Kamchatka as a strategically important point on the way to America.
