Abstract
The article deals with the role of background knowledge in the perception and translation of works of fiction and especially of works of poetry. The object of the study is a poem by the contemporary Swedish poet Malte Persson Sju sorters blommor - en midsommardikt. In order to translate such a text it is necessary to analyze it thoroughly as a whole and define the prevailing emotion and meaning. While analyzing a poetic text it is useful to apply the system invented by the Swedish translator Augustin Mannerheim.
