Abstract
The comparative analysis of strategies for describing the semantics of kinship terms in two types of English explanatory dictionaries - traditional and crowdsourced - shows, on the one hand, the identity of strategies of word defining (logical, synonymic and enumerative strategies are used in both types of lexicographic paradigms); on the other hand, there is a wider repertoire of ways to reveal the semantics in folk lexicography: in addition to the above mentioned, descriptive, mixed and associative strategies are exploited.
