Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of the interpretation of the theme of the Last Judgment in the art of French Gothic. Each cathedral built in the Gothic era has a tympanum, the theme of which is the Last Judgment, and where the fragment with the punishment of sinners carries the main moral lesson to ordinary believers. Thus, this motif acts as one of the leading ones in the decoration of French Gothic churches, which determines its important place in the picture of the world of a medieval Christian.
