Abstract

Since the 17th century, the French Academy has been the main institution regulating standards of the French language. However, over the past few decades, the conservative position of the Academy came into conflict with the need to reflect the social and economic changes in France. As a result, the French press is positioning itself as a social institution involved in regulating the linguistic norm of the French language. The article proposes to examine the institutionalization of media discourse on the French language on the example of the national daily newspaper Le Figaro, which created a separate column devoted to the French language.
