Abstract

The article, based on the material of an anonymous old French chronicle of the 13th century, preserved under the name Manuscript de Rothelin, examines the specifics of the description of historical figures (Crusaders and Saracens), events (the conquest of Jerusalem) and objects of the surrounding reality, explores the peculiarity of the presentation of the author's “I” and the ways of its verbalization. The purpose of the article is to identify and describe the structures that make it possible to regard the chronicle as an independent author's work created based on established stereotypes of the era of the Crusades.
