Abstract
The article examines the documentary basis of two stories by V. A. Nikiforov-Volgin: “Pushkin and Metropolitan Filaret”, “Vaska Kirpichnikov and A. S. Pushkin”. The first story was published in Russia in a truncated form, the second was never published. By comparing the texts, it is shown where Nikiforov-Volgin follows the documents (or what he considers a document), and where he departs from the known facts. The reasons for the writer’s fiction are explained.
