Resumo

The paper focuses on the use of English loanwords in the titles of articles in the present-day French periodicals. The aim of the study is to examine functional features of English loanwords considered as precedent phenomena in the titles of articles. Based on articles from the magazine “L’Obs”, the types of English loanwords-precedent phenomena in titles are considered, the particularities of their use and the functions of titles with precedent phenomena are analyzed. The dictionary definition analysis, the component analysis and the contextual analysis methods are applied. The analysis shows that Anglicisms-precedent statements are most common in the titles of articles. The use of occasionally transformed precedent phenomena results in the expressiveness and increased informational value of titles that allows attracting readers’ attention and expressing more clearly the author’s point of view.
