Abstract

The article studies the peculiarities of individual author’s synonymic variation in the description of a character’s personality in the novel by J. Austen “Sense and Sensibility”. The aim of the research is to determine the individual author’s peculiar features of synonymic variability as a process and as a result of fictional reflection. Synonymic means of varying degrees of proximity are determined through the use of methods of linguistic, pragmatic, contextual analysis, and pragmatic and axiological modeling, which allow to exemplify the controversial image of Edward Ferrars by outlining the vector of his interpretation by the reader. As a result of the linguistic and pragmatic analysis the modeling of hierarchically organized text synonymic paradigms was performed, revealing conceptually significant personality traits of the fictional character in the author’s projection.
