On a decomposable branching process with two types of particles
摘要
A decomposable Galton–Watson branching process with two types of particles is considered. It is assumed that particles of the first type produce particles of both the first and the second types, and produce them in equal amounts, while particles of the second type only produce particles of the same type. An asymptotic formula is obtained for the probability that the total number of particles of the second type up to time N is greater than θN, where θ is a positive constant and N → ∞. A limit theorem is established for the total number of particles of the first type considered under the condition that the total number of particles of the second type up to time N is greater than θN.



A uniform asymptotic formula for the second moment of primitive L-functions on the critical line
摘要
We prove an asymptotic formula for the second moment of primitive L-functions of even weight and prime power level. The error term is estimated uniformly in all parameters: level, weight, shift, and twist.



Continuous homomorphisms between algebras of iterated Laurent series over a ring
摘要
We study continuous homomorphisms between algebras of iterated Laurent series over a commutative ring. We give a full description of such homomorphisms in terms of discrete data determined by the images of parameters. In similar terms, we give a criterion of invertibility of an endomorphism and provide an explicit formula for the inverse endomorphism. We also study the behavior of the higher dimensional residue under continuous homomorphisms.



On a symmetric Diophantine equation with reciprocals
摘要
An asymptotic formula is obtained for the number of solutions to a symmetric Diophantine equation with reciprocals, and its applications to problems related to the distribution of values of short Kloosterman sums are presented.



New results on sums and products in ℝ
摘要
We improve previous sum–product estimates in ℝ; namely, we prove the inequality max{|A + A|, |AA|} ≫ |A|4/3+c, where c is any number less than 5/9813. New lower bounds for sums of sets with small product set are found. We also obtain results on the additive and multiplicative energies; in particular, we improve a result of Balog and Wooley.



On some properties of smooth sums of ridge functions
摘要
The following problem is studied: If a finite sum of ridge functions defined on an open subset of Rn belongs to some smoothness class, can one represent this sum as a sum of ridge functions (with the same set of directions) each of which belongs to the same smoothness class as the whole sum? It is shown that when the sum contains m terms and there are m − 1 linearly independent directions among m linearly dependent ones, such a representation exists.



Plane rational quartics and K3 surfaces
摘要
We study actions of the symmetric group S4 on K3 surfaces X that satisfy the following condition: there exists an equivariant birational contraction \(\bar r:X \to \bar X\) to a K3 surface \(\bar X\) with ADE singularities such that the quotient space \(\bar X\) /S4 is isomorphic to P2. We prove that up to smooth equivariant deformations there exist exactly 15 such actions of the group S4 on K3 surfaces, and that these actions are realized as actions of the Galois groups on the Galoisations \(\bar X\) of the dualizing coverings of the plane which are associated with plane rational quartics without A4, A6, and E6 singularities as their singular points.



On translating Lambek grammars with one division into context-free grammars
摘要
We describe a method of translating a Lambek grammar with one division into an equivalent context-free grammar whose size is bounded by a polynomial in the size of the original grammar. Earlier constructions by Buszkowski and Pentus lead to exponential growth of the grammar size.



ℚ-Fano threefolds of index 7
摘要
We show that if the inequality dim|−KX| ≥ 15 holds for a ℚ-Fano threefold X of Fano index 7, then X is isomorphic to one of the following varieties: ℙ(12, 2, 3), X6 ⊂ ℙ(1, 22, 3, 5), or X6 ⊂ ℙ(1, 2, 32, 4).



Double quadrics with large automorphism groups

We classify nodal Fano threefolds that are double covers of smooth quadrics branched over intersections with quartics and are acted on by finite simple non-abelian groups. We also study their rationality.



Polynomial dynamical systems and the Korteweg—de Vries equation
摘要
We explicitly construct polynomial vector fields Lk, k = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, on the complex linear space C6 with coordinates X = (x2, x3, x4) and Z = (z4, z5, z6). The fields Lk are linearly independent outside their discriminant variety Δ ⊂ C6 and are tangent to this variety. We describe a polynomial Lie algebra of the fields Lk and the structure of the polynomial ring C[X,Z] as a graded module with two generators x2 and z4 over this algebra. The fields L1 and L3 commute. Any polynomial P(X,Z) ∈ C[X,Z] determines a hyperelliptic function P(X,Z)(u1, u3) of genus 2, where u1 and u3 are the coordinates of trajectories of the fields L1 and L3. The function 2x2(u1, u3) is a two-zone solution of the Korteweg–de Vries hierarchy, and ∂z4(u1, u3)/∂u1 = ∂x2(u1, u3)/∂u3.



Elliptic function of level 4
摘要
The article is devoted to the theory of elliptic functions of level n. An elliptic function of level n determines a Hirzebruch genus called an elliptic genus of level n. Elliptic functions of level n are also of interest because they are solutions of the Hirzebruch functional equations. The elliptic function of level 2 is the Jacobi elliptic sine function, which determines the famous Ochanine–Witten genus. It is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2 − v2)/(uB(v) − vB(u)), B(0) = 1. The elliptic function of level 3 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) − v2A(u))/(uA(v)2 − vA(u)2), A(0) = 1, A″(0) = 0. In the present study we show that the elliptic function of level 4 is the exponential of the universal formal group of the form F(u, v) = (u2A(v) − v2A(u))/(uB(v) − vB(u)), where A(0) = B(0) = 1 and for B′(0) = A″(0) = 0, A′(0) = A1, and B″(0) = 2B2 the following relation holds: (2B(u) + 3A1u)2 = 4A(u)3 − (3A12 − 8B2)u2A(u)2. To prove this result, we express the elliptic function of level 4 in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic functions.



Uniqueness theorem for locally antipodal Delaunay sets
摘要
We prove theorems on locally antipodal Delaunay sets. The main result is the proof of a uniqueness theorem for locally antipodal Delaunay sets with a given 2R-cluster. This theorem implies, in particular, a new proof of a theorem stating that a locally antipodal Delaunay set all of whose 2R-clusters are equivalent is a regular system, i.e., a Delaunay set on which a crystallographic group acts transitively.



Fluid dynamics and thermodynamics as a unified field theory
摘要
We study the problem of consistency of equations of continuum dynamics (using the Euler equations and the continuity equation as examples) and thermodynamic equations of state (for the specific free energy, entropy, and volume). We propose a variant of the Hamiltonian formulation of a model that combines the fluid dynamics of a potential flow of a compressible fluid or gas and local equilibrium thermodynamics into a unified field theory. Thermodynamic equations of state appear in this model as second-class constraint equations. As a consistency condition, there arises another second-class constraint requiring that the product of density and temperature should be independent of time. The model provides an in-principle possibility of finding the time dependence of the specific entropy of the arising dynamical system.



On the problem of maximizing the transition probability in an n-level quantum system using nonselective measurements
摘要
We consider the problem of maximizing the probability of transition from a given initial state to a given final state for an n-level quantum system using nonselective quantum measurements. We find an estimate from below for the maximum of the transition probability for any fixed number of measurements and find the measured observables on which this estimate is attained.



Manipulation of states of a degenerate quantum system
摘要
We consider the dynamics of an open three-level quantum degenerate system. One of the levels in this system is degenerate. The system interacts with three reservoirs (quantum fields) and a classical external field. We show that nondecaying so-called dark states are generated in this system. Since the interactions of the degenerate level with two different reservoirs are different (correspond to different spaces of dark states), we can describe excitation and manipulations for this kind of states (in particular, observation in spectroscopical experiments). Possible applications of this model in quantum optics, quantum computations, and quantum photosynthesis are discussed.



The Hess—Appelrot system and its nonholonomic analogs

This paper is concerned with the nonholonomic Suslov problem and its generalization proposed by Chaplygin. The issue of the existence of an invariant measure with singular density (having singularities at some points of the phase space) is discussed.



On upper bounds in the Fröhlich polaron model
摘要
We show that a sequence of improving upper bounds to the ground state energy of the quantized Fröhlich polaron model can be obtained in a regular way by means of combining a variational method originated from the theory of coherent states with a generalized variational approach in quantum mechanics. Due to their variational nature, these bounds hold for arbitrary strength of the electron–phonon interaction.



Exact solutions of the Euler equations for some two-dimensional incompressible flows
摘要
Two-dimensional (plane and axisymmetric) steady flows of an ideal incompressible fluid are considered in a potential field of external forces. An elliptic partial differential equation is obtained such that each of its solutions is a stream function of a flow described by a certain solution of the Euler equations. Examples of such new exact solutions are given. These solutions can be used, in particular, for testing numerical algorithms and computer programs.



Estimates for the widths of discrete function classes generated by a two-weight summation operator
摘要
Order estimates are obtained for the Kolmogorov, linear, and Gel’fand widths of the image of the unit ball of the space lp under the action of a two-weight summation operator with weights of special kind. Some limit conditions on the parameters defining the weights are considered.
