Alternative energy in Spain and Chile. Forecasts and prospects in the context of the energy transition

Maskalenko E.V., Medvedev M.K.

Abstract

The article provides a comparative analysis of the actions and achievements of two states, the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Chile, in the field of green energy. Over the last decade both countries have done extensive work on decarbonization of the economy and have become one of the leaders in their regions in terms of the pace of implementation of the energy transition. At the same time the strategies and mechanisms of work of the two states in the field of alternative energy development differ in many respects. Under certain comparable conditions and prerequisites for the development of the industry, with an identical share of alternative sources in the energy sector, Spain and Chile achieved different socio-economic indicators. In order to identify the potential for renewable energy development in Spain and Chile, the authors identified three factors of economic, political and energy character, based on which a forecast for the achievement of green energy targets in accordance with the state strategies of the countries was developed.

G20 in the positioning of Mexico, Argentina and Brazil at the turn of the 2020s. Assessments, expectations, contradictions

Konovalova K.A., Almukov T.M.

Abstract

The article examines the approaches to G20 of its Latin American members - Mexico, Argentina and Brazil - in the early 2020s. The relevance of the topic is due to discussions about the significance and functionality of the G20 in the context of growing international geopolitical tensions and undermining of the neoliberal globalization, as well as the transition of the presidency in G20 to Brazil in 2024. The study is based on a combination of textual analysis and historical methods, which allows to identify the key features of the political projecting of the presence in G20 of three nations under the administrations of Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador, Alberto Fern?ndez, Luiz In?cio “Lula” da Silva, both individually and from the perspective of a possible consolidated Latin American view. The authors conclude that although the governments of Mexico, Argentina and Brazil addressed in the Group some common topics, mainly related to the idea of overcoming of the global inequality, their attitude towards the potential of G20 for changing the global rules of the game in the interests of developing countries differs, that hinders solidary positioning in G20.

Spain and China: from mutual distrust to problems in strategic partnership. Trade, economic and investment cooperation

Borzova A.Y., Alekseev F.O.

Abstract

The article identifies the main trends in the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Spain and China, especially after the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2005. The authors assessed the potential of economic cooperation that has developed over 50 years of diplomatic relations, and considered new directions: interaction both within individual regions and cities, and in the markets of third countries, which include Latin America, North Africa and Asia. The article also shows negative market-driven factors that make it difficult to deepen these ties, which include Spain’s membership in NATO, the EU’s adherence to an aggressive anti-Chinese policy, and Beijing’s evasion of anti-Russian sanctions. The authors conclude that the growing deficit in Spain's trade with China, the decline in Madrid's interest in the Belt and Road project, and the intensification of Chinese policy in Latin America indicate that the likelihood of the formation of a China-Spain-Latin America triangle has decreased.

Imitation as an adaptation tool in pottery making in New Spain

Kondakova O.V.

Abstract

Ceramics produced in the Viceroyalty of New Spain in the 16th – 18th centuries serve as a valuable source for studying the history of intercultural contacts and colonization of the American continent. This article focuses on tableware ceramics and their significance in the sociocultural adaptation of colonial populations. The production of pottery on the Iberian Peninsula prior to colonization is described, and the function of ceramic vessels during the initial stages of conquest is explored. The article also examines questions of continuity and innovation in pottery production technology, and presents models for the emergence of new ceramic types in New Spain. Additionally, connections are established between the external appearance of tableware and the social identity of its owner. Particular attention is paid to the study of Tonala Polychrome ceramic type, which is an excellent example of local potters adapting to new standards of tableware. The work is based on the study of collections of Tonaltec pottery from the 17th to 18th centuries found in museums across Russia, Spain, and France.
