Abstract

The phase composition and the structural evolution of an Mg–Zn–Zr alloy containing REM are studied in comparison with the commercial MA14 alloy. It is found that the phases formed with REM exhibit high thermal stability. An equiaxial and fine-grained structure and a favorable morphology of the phases provide a high level of the properties of the new alloy with respect to the properties of the commercial MA14 alloy over the wide temperature range from –70 to +300°C.
