Luminescence and Light-Resistance Features of Mixed Europium–Gadolinium Complexes in Polymer Films

Mardaleishvili I.R., Zaichenko N.L., Koltsova L.S., Shienok A.I., Levin P.P., Ivanov V.B.

Abstract

The effect of gadolinium on the luminescence of europium in mixed complexes with thenoyltrifluoroacetylacetone and 1,10-phenanthroline in poly(methyl methacrylate) and polyethylene films has been studied. The scale of change in light resistance with varying the proportion of gadolinium and the concentration of the complex in the polymer has been estimated. An increase in the relative intensity of luminescence in polyethylene with an increase in the proportion of gadolinium in the complexes has been revealed, the
magnitude of which corresponds to a similar effect for complexes in the crystalline state. This effect is absent in poly(methyl methacrylate) films; however, the presence of gadolinium lowers the rate of decrease in luminescence intensity during photolysis.

Pakhomov A.A., Efremova A.V., Maksimova M.A., Kononevich Y.N., Ionov D.S., Dubinets N.O., Martynov V.I., Muzafarov A.M., Alfimov M.V.

Abstract

The photophysical properties of functional distyryl derivatives of dipyrrometheneboron difluoride (BODIPY) in various solvents have been studied. It was shown that in all solvents, the studied compounds have similar absorption and fluorescence spectra, which are characteristic of the distyryl derivatives of BODIPY. Small bathochromic shifts of the spectra with increasing solvent polarity, as well as insignificant changes in the rate constants of radiative and nonradiative processes, provide evidence that the S1 states are of the (π,π*) type. These dyes can be used to visualize processes in living systems.

Measurement of Photoelectrophysical Characteristics of Conductive Layers of CsPbBr3 Colloidal Quantum Dots

Pevtsov D.N., Lochin G.A., Katsaba A.V., Brichkin S.B.

Abstract

Colloidal quantum dots of perovskites having the chemical composition CsPbBr3 have been synthesized. For these particles, the average size of an ensemble of particles and sample polydispersity have been determined by steady-state spectrofluorometry. Conducting layers were made from the obtained particles, and the electrophysical characteristics of these layers were measured. The hole nature of the conductivity was
established, and the layer conductivity (0.04 S/m), mobility (0.8 cm2/(V s)), and number concentration of free charge carriers (3.01 × 1021 m−3) were measured. In accordance with published data, the measured mobility value is higher by one to two orders of magnitude than published typical values. It is shown that high polydispersity has a weak effect on the electrophysical and transport characteristics in the resulting layers.

Baskakov S.A., Baskakova Y.V., Dvoretskaya E.V., Krasnikova S.S., Lesnichaya V.A., Shulga Y.M., Vasilets V.N.

Abstract

Nanocomposites based on aqueous polyurethane latex and graphene oxide have been synthesized and characterized. The structure and composition of the nanocomposites were studied using elemental analysis, optical microscopy, IR spectroscopy, DSC, and thermogravimetry. The nanocomposites showed higher thermal stability and increased mechanical strength compared to those of the original polymer. It has been established that the Young’s modulus of latex films after the introduction of 2 wt % graphene oxide increased by a factor of almost 6. In this case, the fracture stress decreased only slightly by 10–15%. The influence of the particle size of graphene oxide on the mechanical properties of the composites was found, namely: composites with larger particles of graphene oxide had a higher Young’s modulus, and their relative elongation at break decreased

Effect of Copper Ions on Quercetin Reactivity in Free Radical Reactions and Radioprotective Activity

Lysenko A.G., Fenin A.A.

Abstract

Steady state radiolysis showed a decrease in the reactivity of quercetin in free radical reactions with the 1-hydroxyethyl radical and the superoxide radical anion as a result of the formation of a complex with a copper ion. The negative effect of copper ions can be reduced via destroying the resulting complex by introducing chelating compounds, such as tartaric acid and EDTA. The nature of the change in reactivity corresponded to the change in the radioprotective activity of quercetin in relation to yeast cells.

Effect of Pulsed Electron Beam Treatment on the Release Profile of Chloramphenicol from Polylactic Acid–Based Polymeric Scaffolds

Volokhova A.A., Ponomarev D.V., Kurzina I.A., Tverdokhlebov S.I.

Abstract

The paper presents the results of testing the properties of antibacterial nonwoven fibrous materials based on polylactic acid with incorporated chloramphenicol. It has been shown that exposure to a pulsed electron beam increased the rate of release of chloramphenicol into a phosphate-buffered saline medium. In this case, the amount of the substance released from treated samples was reliably greater than that with untreated samples during the five days of the experiment

Radiation-Initiated Dehalogenation of Organofluorine Compounds in Aqueous Solutions

Tugai O.V., Kosobutskii V.S., Sverdlov R.L., Brinkevich S.D., Lastovskii S.B.

Abstract

The γ-radiolysis of 2-fluoroethanol-1, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol-1, 3-fluoropropanol-1, and 4,4,4- trif luorobutanol-1 in aqueous solutions in an inert atmosphere or in the presence of oxygen has been studied. It has been found that the dehalogenation of hydroxyl-containing organic compounds is induced by •ОН and Н• radicals rather than hydrated electrons. The carbon-centered α-hydroxy-β-fluoroethyl radicals FCH2–•CHOH are def luorinated much more efficiently than α-fluoroalkyl radicals, both vicinal (F–•CHCH2OH) and nonvicinal (F–•CHCH2CH2OH). In the absence of oxygen, α-fluoroalkyl radicals
eliminate fluoride ions by the mechanism of nucleophilic substitution, and this process is enhanced in the presence of alkali. In an oxygenated medium, the dehalogenation of α-fluoroalkyl radicals occurs via the addition of oxygen molecules to them and the subsequent disproportionation of resulting peroxyl radicals. The dehalogenation of the α-hydroxy-β-fluoroethyl radicals FCH2–•CHOH is inhibited by oxygen through their oxidation.

Strength Kinetics of Oriented Polypropylene during Radiation-Oxidative Aging

Dalinkevich A.A., Piskarev I.M., Fomin L.V., Nenasheva T.A.

Abstract

The kinetic features of change in the strength of oriented polypropylene (PP) as a result of radiation oxidation have been established. The relationship between the change in the strength of oriented PP (slit-film yarns) after irradiation in air and the structural characteristics of the polymer is shown. A kinetic model is presented that takes into account the supramolecular (fibrillar) structure of the oriented polymer and the kinetic
features of radiation-induced oxidation.

Peculiarities in the Radiolysis of β-Diketones

Vlasov S.I., Smirnova A.A., Ponomarev A.V., Uchkina D.A., Sholokhova A.Y., Mitrofanov A.A.

Abstract

Intramolecular hydrogen bonding has a significant effect on the radiolytic transformations of β- diketones. Using the radiolysis of acetylacetone as an example, it has been shown that a hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl and carbonyl in an enol prevents proton transfer from the primary radical cation to the neighboring molecule. As a result, the radiolytic formation of a keto alcohol (4-hydroxy-2-pentanone) was not observed at room temperature, but it was effective under boiling conditions. The intramolecular hydrogen
bond contributed to a significant structural stress in the radical cation, which increased the yield of C–OH bond cleavage and the inhomogeneous formation of acetate (4-oxopent-2-en-2-yl acetate) under normal conditions

Stabilization of Diffraction Gratings Recorded in Poly-N-epoxypropylcarbazole Films Doped with Iodoform

Sergeev S.A., Robu S.V., Meshalkin A.Y., Iovu M.S.

Abstract

In poly-N-epoxypropylcarbazole films containing 10 wt % CHI3 as an additive, diffraction gratings with a period of about 1 μm have been recorded by electron-beam irradiation at various radiation doses. The influence of the duration of storage in the dark of diffraction gratings on their diffraction efficiency has been examined. A postradiation increase in the diffraction efficiency of gratings recorded at relatively low electron radiation doses was observed. The diffraction efficiency values stabilized approximately on the sixth day after
recording the diffraction gratings.

Structure Modification and Enhancement of Wear Resistance of Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene by Low-Pressure Helium Plasma Treatment

Vasilets V.N., Velyaev Y.O., Torkhov N.A., Mosunov A.A., Potopakhin L.V., Evstigneev M.P.

Abstract

The surface treatment of ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in helium
plasma at a pressure of 0.133 mbar has been studied by IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,a nd atomic force microscopy. It has been shown that the helium plasma treatment leads to the formation of double bonds in the UHMWPE surface layer and the associated formation of intermolecular crosslinks. The crosslinking of the surface layer is accompanied by a decrease in the nanowear of the UHMWPE surface by
more than three orders of magnitude, which is confirmed by measurements using an atomic force microscope in the contact mode

Plasma Processing of Light- and Heavy-Oil Asphaltenes

Grin’ko A.A., Ivanova L.V., Frantsina E.V., Petrova Y.Y., Pak A.Y., Povalyaev P.V., Kaichev V.V., Arkachenkova V.V., Litvintseva K.A.

Abstract

The paper presents an analysis of the results of an experimental study of carbon materials obtained in a direct-current arc plasma from asphaltenes isolated from light oil of the Sredneugutskoye field and combined heavy oil from Venezuelan fields, as well as asphaltenes isolated from natural asphaltite. The influence of the composition of initial asphaltenes on the composition and properties of carbon materials obtained as a result of plasma treatment has been studied. The parent asphaltenes and carbon materials synthesized from them have been examined using a set of instrumental methods: X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis, Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission and scanning electron microscopy, and laser diffraction. Changes in the composition and structure of the obtained materials after plasma processing of asphaltenes have been established. It is shown that this method can be considered promising for processing not only petroleum material, but also oil industry waste enriched in resin–asphaltene components.
