Resumo
Basic features of the discourse of the sonnet in Italian, French, English and Russian languages are viewed in the historic perspective since its emergence in the XIII-th century in Cecily followed by its gradual spread in Europe during the Age of Renaissance up to the New Time. The core structural-compositional and cognitive-stylistic peculiarities of the sonnet are consistently revealed. Lapidarity is introduced as the distinctive characteristic of the genre along five aspects.
