Abstract
The paper based on the notes of German-speaking travelers is dedicated to the emotive means of the language, objectifying the emotional reactions of the authors of publications to the events and facts of Russian reality. The analysis revealed language means representing the most frequent emotional reactions (surprise and apprehension); the spheres of their actualization (nature, welfare, lifestyle and behavior of Russians in everyday life). It has been established that the image of a country has a field structure.
