Abstract
This article aims to analyze the use of ancient images in Finnish poetry from the second half of the 20th century. The study focuses on the works of Paavo Haavikko, Aila Meriluoto, Pentti Saarikoski, Eeva-Liisa Manner, and others. Comparative-historical, cultural, and intertextual methods were employed. As a result I conclude, that the images of Orpheus and Odysseus undergo transformation, reflecting a deheroization and re-evaluation of cultural heritage. The Finnish Odysseus, unlike Homer’s, loses his connection to home and family. Antiquity serves as a tool for critical reflection on modernity.
