Abstract
The article presents the results of a study of the psychological profile of finalyear biology students enrolled in the degree programme 06.04.01 Biology (General Biology profile) based on R. Cloninger’s Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI).
The aim of the work was to identify the relationship between temperament and character traits and the level of academic achievement. The study involved 30 4th-year students. It was found that high academic achievements (“excellent” grade) are statistically significantly associated with low scores on the Novelty Seeking scale, high scores on the Harm Avoidance scale, as well as with developed character traits – Self-Directedness, Cooperativeness, and Self-Transcendence. A common problem for the entire sample has been identified – a low level of Persistence. The results make it possible to identify targets for psychological and pedagogical intervention aimed at optimising the educational process and professional self-determination of future biologists.
