INTERACTION OF PLATINUM NANOPARTICLES SYNTHESIZED ON GRAPHITE WITH NITROUS OXIDE

Heterogeneous catalytic reactions involving nitrous oxide (N2O) are of great interest for medicine, technology, and ecology. The goal of this work is to determine the features of adsorption of N2O molecules followed by their interaction with a catalytic system based on metal nanoparticles at room temperature. Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, as well as Auger spectroscopy, have been employed to identify the results and products of the adsorption of nitrous oxide on the surface of individual Pt nanoparticles synthesized on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. It has been shown that, at short exposures, oxygen atoms
resulting from dissociative adsorption oxidize the surface of nanoparticles only near the platinum–graphite interface. As the exposure increases, the entire surface of the nanoparticles is covered with oxide. Thus, it has been shown that the adsorption properties of the surface of the platinum nanoparticles on graphite are not the same, and this fact provides the possibility to carry out different chemical reactions on different surface regions, thereby increasing the efficiency of the catalytic system as a whole.

EFFECT OF MAGNETITE CONTENT AND SPECIFICITY OF NICKEL(II) IONS ON ELECTROKINETIC PROPERTIES OF COMPOSITES BASED ON POROUS SILICA PARTICLES

Powders of magnetite and its composites have been obtained on the basis of macroporous highsilica glass particles containing different amounts of Fe3O4. XRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy have been employed to confirm the formation of a magnetite phase in all iron-containing samples. The surface morphology and elemental composition of porous composite particles have been studied by SEM and EDX methods. It has been found that the external surface of porous silica particles is modified to different extents. It has been shown that the positions of the isoelectric point (IEP) and the values of the zeta-potentials for the composites coincide in indifferent electrolyte solutions. Two isoelectric points are observed in the pH dependences of the zeta-potential for the composite particles in nickel chloride solutions. In dilute solutions containing specifically adsorbed nickel ions and at pH values pHIEP-2, the electrokinetic properties of the composite particles are primarily affected by magnetite phase content in a composite powder and, at rather high concentrations of Ni2+ ions, by their specificity with respect to oxide surfaces.

NOBLE METAL NANOPARTICLES IN BIOMEDICAL THERMOPLASMONICS

The unique properties of metal nanoparticles (NPs) resulting from their localized surface plasmon resonance have led to the emergence and rapid development of promising scientific areas. One of these area is thermoplasmonics, which is based on the ability of such NPs to effectively transform optical radiation into heat. We discuss the optical properties of noble metal NPs, the main approaches to their synthesis, as well as the latest advances of thermoplasmonics in the field of biomedicine. The focus of this review is on photothermal diagnostics and therapy (theranostics) of various diseases. Note that, in addition to theranostics of tumors, the prospects for the use of plasmonic NPs in cardiology, ophthalmology, the fight against bacterial and viral infections, and other biomedical fields have been analyzed.

SILVER-CONTAINING BICOMPONENT NANOPARTICLES: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MORPHOLOGY AND ELECTROKINETIC POTENTIAL

The chemical compositions, structures, and electrokinetic potentials have been studied for silvercontaining Janus-type ZnO/Ag nanoparticles, heterophase Cu/Ag nanoparticles with a uniform distribution of the components over a particle, and silver-decorated TiO2 nanoparticles. The nanoparticles have been obtained by the simultaneous electric explosion of two wires. The influence of nanoparticle surface structure on the isoelectric point position and electrokinetic potential values has been analyzed. The effect of silver localization on the electrokinetic characteristics of nanoparticles has been investigated. These characteristics have been compared with those of mechanical mixtures having the same mass ratios of the components.

STABILIZATION OF PICKERING EMULSIONS WITH HETEROAGGREGATES OF DETONATION NANODIAMONDS AND SIO2 NANOPARTICLES

The stabilization of Pickering emulsions with mixtures of similarly and oppositely charged detonation nanodiamonds and silica nanoparticles has been studied. Dynamic light scattering has been employed to study the influence of pH and the mass ratio of the particles on the sizes and ζ-potentials of aggregates. The formation of heteroaggregates from mixtures of similarly charged nanoparticles and the efficient stabilization of dodecane droplets have been shown and theoretically substantiated. Submicron droplets of Pickering emulsion stabilized with the mixtures of oppositely charged silica nanoparticles and detonation nanodiamonds
have been obtained.

IN SITU ENCAPSULATION OF NICKEL NANOPARTICLES IN POLYSACCHARIDE SHELLS DURING THEIR FABRICATION BY ELECTRICAL EXPLOSION OF WIRE

Nickel nanoparticles are obtained by electrical explosion of wire under the action of a high-voltage discharge followed by condensation in an inert gas medium. When butane is added to the gas medium, a carbon shell is deposited onto the condensing nickel particles. Immediately after the synthesis, liquid-phase modification of nanoparticles is carried out with aqueous solutions of polysaccharides agarose and gellan. As a result, a polymer shell is formed on particles of Ni and nickel particles coated with a carbon shell (Ni@C). The dispersity, crystalline structure, and magnetic properties of Ni and Ni@C nanoparticles are characterized by transmission microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and vibration magnetometry. The total carbon
content on the surface of the nanoparticles is determined by thermal analysis with simultaneous mass spectrometry. It is shown that, under the studied conditions, polysaccharides are deposited onto the nanoparticles in amounts up to 2 wt % to form a shell with a thickness of about 4 nm. When agarose is used as a modifier, the content of the polysaccharide increases with the concentration of the modifying solution. When gellan is used as a modifier, a more complex concentration dependence is observed: an initial increase is followed by a decrease in the amount of deposited polysaccharide. The results are discussed from the viewpoint of the influence of the molecular weight of a polymer on the adsorption process.

FEATURES OF BORIC ACID SORPTION BY FIBAN A-5 ANION-EXCHANGE FIBER UNDER STATIC CONDITIONS

Excessive contents of boron and its compounds can exhibit toxic effects despite their necessity for functioning living organisms. An urgent task is to remove them in various ways, including the use of sorption technologies. Boron-selective sorbents with functional OH groups and granular anion exchangers with functional amino groups are capable of extracting boron compounds. This paper is devoted to studying boric acid sorption under static conditions on FIBAN A-5 fibrous sorbent, which shows a high affinity for boron and can be used as an alternative to anion-exchange resins produced in the form of granules. The features of the kinetics and equilibrium of the sorption by the studied fiber brought in contact with boric acid solutions have been studied. It has been found that the time required to reach the equilibrium state decreases with the intensification of stirring and an increase in the concentration gradient in a solution. Sorption isotherms are of a stepwise character due to the existence of boron in different forms at concentrations above 0.025 M. The influence of temperature, pH of a solution, and ionic form of the sorbent on the capacity of FIBAN A-5 fiber has been determined.

ON THE EFFECT OF VISCOSITY RELAXATION ON ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION INTENSITY OF AN OSCILLATING CHARGED DROPLET

Theoretical asymptotic calculations linear with respect to small dimensionless amplitude of oscillations have been employed to study the influence of the viscoelastic properties of a charged droplet of an electrically conducting viscous liquid on the intensity of its electromagnetic radiation. It has been shown that allowance for the effect of viscosity relaxation leads to a decrease in the damping decrement value, which is determined by energy losses for electromagnetic wave emission, and the intensity of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation; a substantial reduction in the viscous damping decrement of small cloud droplets; and an essential dependence of the viscous damping decrement on the characteristic relaxation time. It has been found that the viscosity relaxation of a liquid has no significant effect on damped capillary oscillations and electromagnetic radiation of rain droplets. Viscoelasticity and viscosity of the liquid do not influence the conditions critical for the realization of the electrostatic instability of a droplet with respect to its own charge.

CHARACTERIZATION OF SUPERHYDROPHOBIC COATINGS BASED ON PDMS AND MQ RESIN ON TEXTURED SURFACES

The paper presents the results of studying coatings based on poly(dimethylsiloxane) rubber crosslinked with MQ resin at different contents of the latter. The PDMS :MQ resin ratios have been taken to be 2 : 1, 1 : 1, and 1 : 2. It has been shown that the application of a hydrophobic fluorinated-group-free composite with composition PDMS :MQ = 1 : 1 onto a pre-textured surface by spin-coating or deep-coating results in the formation of superhydrophobic coatings. The coatings are characterized by extremely large contact angles (170°) and rolling angles no larger than 4°. The analysis of variations in the contact angle, surface tension, and contact diameter and volume of a water droplet that has been in contact with a coating for a long time has indicated a high hydrolytic resistance of the obtained coatings.

The regularities have been studied for the formation of molecular associates upon the introduction of papain into a sodium alginate colloidal solution in the laminar low-speed, transient, and turbulent stirring regimes. The relationship between variations in the sorption capacity of the biopolymer composition and the kinetic regularities of the interphase transfer has been studied during the sorption binding of albumin, which is one of the protein-based components of wound exudates, with such components being subject to ensimatic cleavage. The state of the dispersed phase of the colloidal solutions has been estimated by the dynamic light scattering method. The properties of the formed biopolymer films have been studied using the methods of scanning electron microscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and static albumin sorption from solutions of limited volumes. The data of the sorption experiments have been analyzed using the Boyd, Morris–Weber, and gel diffusion models, as well as the Lagergren pseudo-first-order and Ho–McKay pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The data have been obtained for substantiating the dosages of the biopolymermatrix used on wound-healing bandages and for the efficient binding of wound necrotic contamination during the time preset according to the technical requirements.

MOLECULAR SIMULATION OF WATER STRUCTURE IN NARROW SLITLIKE PORES

The structure of water in narrow slitlike pores has been studied by the methods of molecular dynamics simulation. Pores with interwall distances of 6.2–15.5 Å have been considered. Water structures resulting from spontaneous crystallization upon cooling to T = 300 K have been clarified on the basis of twoand three-dimensional order parameters. It has been shown that the observed structures can be described as sections of FCC or HCP crystals.
