Abstract

Objective: To study the characteristics of interpersonal relationships in relation to self-esteem in primary school children with stuttering. Materials and methods. 25 families with children from the age of 9 to 11 years studying in a correctional school of type V were examined. The main group included children with a diagnosis of stuttering, consisting of 8 girls and 17 boys. The control group consisted of 25 families with children with no history of speech impairment, aged 9 to 12 years, studying in a school with in-depth study of the English language. Gender composition of the group: 13 girls and 12 boys. We used the parental relationship questionnaire (V. V. Stolin and A. Ya. Varga), the semi-projective visual-verbal method “Film Test” by Rene Gilles (adaptation by I.N. Gilyasheva and N. D. Ignatieva), and the method “Study of self-esteem” according to T. V. Dembo, S. Ya. Rubinstein (modification by A. M. Parishioners). Results. Data analysis showed that the control group has lower, compared with the main, indicators of parental relationship. According to the indicators of Rene Gilles technique, the main group demonstrates more desire to establish positive relations with the father than the control group. No significant differences were obtained using the “Self-Assessment Study” methodology. Conclusion. Parental attitudes toward children with stuttering are characterized by greater warmth, responsiveness, and acceptance of the child than attitudes toward children without speech impairment (4 tables, bibl.: 13 refs).
