Abstract
the purpose of our study is to compare traditional and multimodal approaches to the formation of educational materials to determine the degree of exhaustion of the possibilities of traditional education, as well as to delineate the scope of each approach for the preparation of bachelors of tourism and hospitality. A number of tasks correspond to this goal: socio-semiotic analysis of trends in the development of cognitive thinking of modern students; conducting a comparative analysis of the design of traditional and multimodal educational materials; comparing the results obtained with the goals of higher education in tourism and hospitality. The object of the research is the analysis of theoretical assumptions about the connections of cognitive thinking of modern students with traditional and multimodal methods of educational information design and the possibility of their application in the context of hybridization of the higher education system. The relevance of the research is due to the need to find answers to the question of trends that manifest themselves in changing the pedagogical design of educational materials as a result of the increasing influence of digital technologies and their impact on the cognitive abilities of students. The results of the study are used to interpret empirical data collected by the authors during a series of observations of students of the Department of "Tourism" of the Patrice Lumuba Higher School of Management of the RUDN within the framework of the discipline "Fundamentals of excursion activities" and the Department of "Management in Hotel and Restaurant" of the University of «Synergy».
