Аннотация

The study analyzes the US policy of assigning “Major Non-NATO Ally” status to the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) states. It highlights the reasons behind the mutual interest in establishing and maintaining a US “protective umbrella” over the region's states. The analysis includes a review of US relations with each state in the region, characterizing the policy of assigning (or not assigning) this status to each country and to the region as a whole. The paper underscores the importance of considering the individual level of interaction of each GCC country with the US and NATO when formulating Russian foreign policy in the region.
