Author Guidelines

Ethical principles of authors

“USA & Canada: Economics, Politics, Culture” adheres to ethical standards adopted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to all participants in the process of preparing materials for publication.

The editorial team of the “USA & Canada: Economics, Politics, Culture” expects that by contributing a manuscript each author commits to the following ethical principles:

- A writing team indicated in a manuscript includes all major contributors to the study, and does not include persons who did not participate in it.

- All co-authors are notified of a manuscript’s submission to the journal and do not object to that, the interests of the authors’ team are represented by one selected person who corresponds with the editorial team. The final version of the text is sent for authorization to a contact person, who is to disseminate the text among all the co-authors.

- The authors of collective works are listed in alphabetical order.

- A manuscript presents the results of an original academic research. Academic works that have to certain extent influenced the course of the study are reflected in bibliographic references. Borrowed fragments or statements are quoted according to the rules of citation, indicating the author and the source. Non-formalized quotations and usurpation of other people's research authorship are absent.

- The authors are responsible for all the factual material presented in the manuscript and pledge that no data was falsified or fabricated.

- Quotation manipulations (e.g. inappropriate or excessive quoting from an author’s supervisors, superiors or colleagues), including self-quoting are not allowed. References to the author’s own works cannot comprise more than 20% of the bibliography, if a total number of references does not exceed 25, and with a larger number - more than 5 references).

- The content of a manuscript must not be located elsewhere under copyright.

- A manuscript has not been previously published and is sent for consideration only to this journal.

- The graphic material presented in a manuscript is either original and the copyright to it belongs to the authors or it is made by the authors on the basis of previously existing data, supported by exhaustive bibliographic references.

Authorship Criteria

- The definition of the authors and the circle of persons who participated in preparation of a manuscript is the responsibility of the authors themselves, not that of the editorial team. Disputes between the authors on that matter are not considered by the editorial team and may serve as a reason to suspend the publication of the manuscript.

- The author is defined as a person who directly participated in writing of a manuscript, development of its concept, collection of data, its analysis and interpretation.

- Names of persons who have made a contribution to the preparation of a manuscript, but not sufficient to acknowledge their authorship, are presented in the "Acknowledgments" section indicating their roles in the study.

Unethical behavior of authors

- In case of authors’ violation of the ethical principles, the editorial team tries to find out the causes and assess the seriousness of the situation.

- If there is a suspicion of plagiarism, the authors have to prove their authorship or correctly formalize the borrowed fragments, after which the editorial team may re-examine the manuscript.

- In the event of a serious violation of copyright, as well as other provisions of these ethical principles and criteria for authorship, the manuscript is rejected, and the cooperation with the author may be terminated.

- If the article was already published by the time the circumstances of the violations were clarified, it may be withdrawn from the journal with the corresponding note on the official website.
