Issues of Cross-Cultural Communication: The Specifics of I. Brodsky's Translation of the Headings of His Own Poems

The article considers I.A. Brodsky's translation into English of the titles of his own poems during his emigration. The study shows that the translation of the names of poetic texts by the author is determined by the peculiarities of his linguistic worldview and cultural context. The relevance of the research lies in the lack of preliminary study of the author's translation of the titles of poems in the context of cross-cultural communication. The purpose of this work is to identify the relationship between cultures and mentalities from the perspective of linguistic and poetic language, literary studies and translation studies, as well as to prove the influence of the author's linguistic worldview on the establishment of a dialogue between cultures. To achieve the goal, the following tasks are performed: the text and title are determined in the context of linguistics and semiotics; the leading role of the title is revealed – the establishment of the author's intention towards the reader; the author's translation is analyzed. Brodsky identifies the titles of his own poems and highlights key translation transformations; establishes the connection of transformations with the linguistic worldview of the poet and the influence of these factors on the interaction of Russian and English cultures. According to the analysis, the most frequent transformations are holistic transformation, grammatical and lexical substitutions, compensation, literal translation, and an interpretive translation model. The key methods of analysis are descriptive, system-semantic, comparative, and component analysis. The research methods used contribute to the most accurate and complete disclosure of the essence of the features of the author's translation by I.A. Brodsky of the titles of his own poems. The scientific novelty of the research consists in expanding the subject analysis of the author's translation by I.A. Brodsky through the use of a synthesis of literary and linguistic approaches, which can contribute to the development of further research in the field of literature and translation studies. It is concluded that the title is the primary significant part of the poetic text and is considered integral to the work. The revealed translation transformations in the independent translation of I.A. Brodsky's own headlines ensure a deep understanding of English and Russian cultures, contributing to a dialogue of consent. A study of the peculiarities of translating the titles of I.A.'s poems. Translated by Brodsky into English, from the point of view of both literary criticism and cross-cultural communication, it allows us to determine the specifics of the poet's linguistic worldview, as well as to trace the interrelation and interaction of cultures and mentalities.
