Abstract
Research methods: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, surveys, pedagogical experiments, methods of mathematical statistics.
Research results and conclusions. The insufficient volume of work on the development of special endurance in the training process of orientation athletes affects the effectiveness of the athletes' performances. The application of interval training on a rugged terrain with a sandy surface for orientation athletes aged 13-16 has proven effective in increasing the level of special endurance development and improving performance in the 1000-meter run and in the control distance (competition course).
