Distribution of thermal fields in face grinding by slotted abrasive segments
摘要
The thermal fields in a workpiece ground by a face tool with discrete abrasive segments are simulated by means of Cosmos Works CAE software. The temperature is considerably reduced in grinding by abrasive segments with longitudinal slots in the base and peripheral planes.

Influence of an obstacle on load displacement by a gantry crane

The influence of the dimensions of a single obstacle on load motion by a gantry crane is investigated in situations where the load and the load cable do not intersect with the obstacle. The load trajectory is specified by sigmoid functions, with quenching of the load vibrations by means of PID controllers.

The deformation of Nomex® polymer paper in bending and creasing is investigated. The main factors in the process are the force, the tool’s rounding radius, the hardness of the matrix, and the paper thickness. Formulas are derived for the flexure angle after load removal.

Laser hardening of 4X5MΦC die steel
摘要
The hardening of 4X5MΦC die steel by a powerful fiber laser is considered. It is found that the hardness of the surface layer after laser treatment is 62–64 HRC and the depth of the hardened layer is 1 mm. Ultrafine structure such as a white layer is formed at the surface.

The role of information technology in rotor balancing
摘要
The potential of multimedia interactive simulators is discussed. As an example, the simulator for a system measuring vibration parameters is considered. By means of this simulator, the components and operating principle of the measuring system may be studied in dialog mode, as is demonstrated. The application of this system not only as a measuring instrument but also for the reduction of vibration in rotating mechanisms (rotor balancing) is demonstrated.

Expansion of pipe blanks
摘要
The development of new shaping technologies for pipe blanks requires simulation of the stress and strain fields, which permits assessment of the limiting stress and strain values. The stress–strain state of a pipe blank in expansion (including nonuniform expansion) is analyzed in the present work. Joint solution of the equilibrium equations and plasticity condition is employed here; that is the traditional approach. Analytical dependences of the stress in the wall of the pipe blank on the technological parameters are obtained; the basic formulas for estimating the strain are also presented. Experiments confirm the results.

Monitoring of electric discharge machining by means of acoustic emission
摘要
Electric discharge machining is accompanied by acoustic-emission signals, which may be used monitoring, diagnostics, and control of the process. Experiments show that the acoustic signals permit assessment of the efficiency of the current pulses supplied and optimal technological adjustment.

Spark plasma sintering of nanostructured powder materials
摘要
Spark plasma sintering is a method of consolidating nanostructured powder materials and also composites and gradient materials in the presence of an electromagnetic field, by means of low-voltage sources of powerful current. The main benefit of spark plasma sintering is that previously impossible structures, properties, and compositions may be produced. The finite-element method is used to analyze the consolidation of samples by spark plasma sintering and by a hybrid method in which spark plasma sintering is combined with hot pressing. Corresponding numerical models are tested.
