Tribological Properties of Dodecaborides of Rare-Earth Metals

This article investigates the main tribotechnical properties of high borides of rare-earth metals with a UB₁₂-type structure. The experiments have demonstrated that ZrB₁₂, DyB₁₂, and TmB₁₂ dodecaborides during friction are characterized by a rather low weight wear of 10^–3 mg/m, coefficient of friction f = 0.2–0.5 and are highly wear-resistant materials, as well as that porous dodecaborides with lubricants can operate for a long period of time at a low coefficient of friction as tribometric couples.
