Mal’tseva E.V., Nechaev L.V., Yudina N.V., Chaikovskaya O.N.

Abstract

The functional group composition, spectroluminescent properties, and catalytic effect of humic acids isolated from coals were studied. The constants of the complexation of humic acids with cadmium ions were determined by a fluorescence quenching method.

Pyrolysis of lignin in coal-tar pitch

Andreikov E.I., Dikovinkina Y.A., Pervova M.G., Krasnikova O.V.

Abstract

The pyrolysis of hydrolytic lignin in coal-tar pitch over a temperature range of 320–380°C was studied in a batch reactor at atmospheric pressure. As a result of reactions with pitch, lignin underwent dissolution and destruction with the formation of compounds that remained in the reactor or were released from the reactor as liquid and gaseous products. The liquid products of the pyrolysis of lignin consist of organic and aqueous phases. The organic products of the pyrolysis of lignin in pitch predominantly contain guaiacol and its derivatives. The chemical interaction of coal-tar pitch with lignin leads to changes in the characteristics of pitch, an increase in the softening point, an increase in the concentrations of compounds insoluble in toluene and quinoline, and an increased yield of the coke residue.

Effect of the rate of pulverized coal preheating on char reactivity

Dekterev A.A., Osipov P.V., Chernetskiy M.Y., Ryzhkov A.F.

Abstract

The effect of the preheating rate of the char particles from Kuznetsk bituminous coal on their specific reaction rate was determined. The experiments were carried out with char samples with mean diameters of 0.15 and 0.35 mm heated to temperatures of 900–1000°C. It was found that the specific surface area of the initial coal, measured by CO2 adsorption at 273 K, for rapid and slow heat treatments increased more that two times. According to the results of thermogravimetric analysis, it was established that rapid pyrolysis in a muffle furnace led to the production of char whose maximum specific reaction rate was higher than that of the samples after slow pyrolysis.

Simulation of the process of coal dust ignition in the presence of metal particles

Glushkov D.O., Kuznetsov G.V., Strizhak P.A.

Abstract

A mathematical model was developed for the gas-phase ignition of a layer of the dust of typical 2B brown coal by a metal particle heated to high temperatures (above 1100 K) under ideal thermal contact conditions. This model took into account the heating and thermal decomposition of ground coal upon the cooling of a local source, the yield of volatile components, and the formation, heating, and ignition of the gas mixture. The effect of heat source parameters (shape and dimensions) on the fundamental process characteristic—the delay time of ignition—was found. A relationship of the ignition zone position near a hot particle with the heating intensity of a gas mixture of volatile substances and an oxidizing agent was revealed. The results of numerical studies are consistent with well-known experimental data on the conditions and characteristics of ground coal burning on local heating by sources of limited energy capacity.

Effect of mechanochemical activation and microgrinding on the intensity of combustion of solid fuel

Popov V.I.

Abstract

The effect of mechanochemical activation and microgrinding on the intensity of combustion of solid fuel particles was studied. As applied to the rapid process of the combustion of solid fuel particles, mechanochemical activation was simulated within the framework of nonequilibrium thermodynamics with the expansion of the classical dependence of the local entropy of state of the reacting system on relaxation phenomena. The dependences of the intensity of burning (mass loss time) of deformed organic solid fuel particles on the relaxation processes of the momentum transfer of their excited states and on the mutual orientation of shear stresses and the first difference in normal stresses (a steric factor), which compensate for temperature power consumption, were established. The rate of combustion is determined by the size of burning particles, their density, and a ratio between the elastic and dissipative scattering of mechanical energy in the particles, which increases the diffusion mobility of burning components with a decrease in the time of their burning. The ranges of variation in the parameters of the burning system in which the particle size or mechanoactivation exerts a considerable effect on the combustion time of fuel particles were recognized. Experiments on the torch combustion of coal-dust fuel as the cumulative combustion of its particles confirmed the effect of mechanoactivation.

Oxidative pyrolysis of oil shale in tubular flow reactors with external heating

Pechenegov Y.Y., Simonov V.F., Semenov B.A., Kosova O.Y., Mrakin A.N.

Abstract

This article discusses the possibilities of the multipurpose use of oil shale based on the methods of their thermal processing. The main current concepts of oxidative pyrolysis processes are considered. A facility for the oxidative pyrolysis of powdered oil shale in tubular reactors of the gas-suspension type with external heat supply to the reaction zone is described.

Adsorption of ethyl benzoate on activated carbon

Vedenyapina M.D., Strel’tsova E.D., Sharpai Y.V., Terent’ev A.O., Vedenyapin A.A.

Abstract

The kinetics of adsorption of ethyl benzoate from solutions in ethanol on coconut shell activated carbon was studied. It was found that the kinetics of adsorption of ethyl benzoate can be described by pseudofirst-order and pseudo-second-order rate equations with the same accuracy. It was established that the adsorption isotherm at a concentration to 2 g/L in the initial solution is adequately described by the Langmuir equation.

Briquetting of coal siftings and slacks in the presence of humates

Fazylov S.D., Nurkenov O.A., Abdykalykov M.A., Satpaeva Z.B., Zhakupova A.N., Isaeva A.Z.

Abstract

Experimental data obtained in the development of a technology for the production of fuel briquettes from coal siftings and slacks are presented. The effects of the moisture content and the granulometric composition of coal components, the type and concentration of a binding agent, the compacting pressure, and the mode of solidification on the mechanical properties of fuel briquettes were studied.

Composition of the water-soluble humic preparations of mechanically activated brown coals

Savel’eva A.V., Mal’tseva E.V., Yudina N.V.

Abstract

Conditions for the solid-phase mechanochemical activation of coals, which make it possible to substantially increase the yield of water-soluble humic preparations enriched in humic acids and mineral elements, are given in this work. It was found that the humic preparations isolated from mechanically activated coals are characterized by an increase in the antioxidant activity and a change in the cationic and anionic composition. The concentration of acidic ionogenic groups in humic acids increased.

Vaisberg L.A., Mikhailova N.V., Gerasimov A.M.

Abstract

The effect of the chemical composition of solid fuel from municipal solid waste on its applicability to the cement industry is considered. The morphological components primarily responsible for undesirable chemical elements, the extraction of which will make it possible to obtain high quality fuel, were revealed by the analysis of the chemical and morphological composition of municipal solid waste.
