An Analytical Review of Global Ecoinformatics Problems
Abstract
Modern global eco-dynamics problems are discussed. It is noted that global changes are mostly characterized by several key features, such as their multicomponent nature, as well as interactivity and nonlinearity. These features challenge various forecast estimates in such a way that the concept of forecasting has been replaced over the last few years by a much more ambiguous concept of scenarios. The vagueness of scenarios is due to the problem of global climate change. A global climate–nature–society system model is outlined.

The Blockchain Technology in Scientific and Information Activities
Abstract
The basic properties of the blockchain technology are discussed to allow informed decisions on its selection and use in scientific and information activities. Specific examples are given and the efficiency of this technology is analyzed.

This paper describes the experience of scientific and practical work on the maintenance (updating) of the thesauri of the AISON RAS: the methods for controlling and updating the terminological composition of thesauri are presented as a means of expanding the navigation capabilities in the conceptual space of bibliographic fund documents.

A Modern Methodology for Teaching Programming at a University
Abstract
The ubiquitous transition to high-tech systems in all spheres of human activity has led to an increase in the demand for specialists who are able not only to maintain such systems but also to refine and develop new ones. Therefore, when preparing bachelors in the 09.03.02 Information Systems and Technologies direction, the following questions become critical: What should be taught? How should it be taught? What tools should be used to teach? Based on the analysis of requirements of educational and professional standards developed in accordance with employers' requirements and realities of the information society, one approach to organizing the teaching of programming at a university is presented.

Selection of Periodicals to Support Nanotechnology Research
Abstract
A comprehensive method for the selection of international scientific periodicals necessary for high-quality research in specific life sciences and technology problems is presented. This method is based on the analysis of citations considering both the citedeness of selected editions in specialized journals and their citing to specialized journals. A list of international journals and other periodicals that are vital for high-quality nanotechnology research was obtained. Based on this list, the development of a documentary constituent of the scientific information environment using a research library to support nanotechnology research is expected. A final list consisting of 572 items was compiled based on the application of “threshold” values and the aggregation and exclusion of data.

The Information Nature of Culture
Abstract
This paper explores the information nature of culture. It is represented as an extragenetic and nonorganizational information process and system. Information is regarded as a universal property of matter that is essentially associated with development processes and realizes various forms and ways of storage and circulation at various development stages of global evolution. The socio-cultural principle of exogenous accumulation, transmission, and transformation of information is analyzed in the context of the continuing growth of the information content of material systems on the superhighway of global-universal evolution. It is noted that the information concept of culture evolves into a new area of cultural studies, that is information and cultural studies, advancing our understanding of the nature of culture and cultural genesis.

Russian Science Citation Index: Areas for Development Identified by Active Users
Abstract
The current state of the Russian Science Citation Index is analyzed. Several areas for its further development identified by long-standing active users, such as data searching, refinement, and storage; current user alerts; data input with the Science Index license; patent information; and the application programming interface (API) are investigated.

Robotics: Scientific Information Sources in Russia and Abroad
Abstract
Currently important Russian and foreign sources of scientific and technical information related to robotics are discussed. An attempt is made to analyze scientific and technical periodicals of the relevant subject matter, selected from the global knowledgebase of periodicals, that is, Ulrich’s Directory of Periodicals. Leading scientific serials attributed to robotics that have the best bibliometric indicators according to the global information and analytical systems Scopus and Web of Science are identified. The specific features of the classification of the subject matter in various classification systems and rubricators for scientific and technical information are considered. Special attention is given to Russian scientific periodicals on robotics included in Russian scientific electronic library (eLibrary.ru) and information resources of All-Russian Institute for Scientific and Technical Information of Russian Academy of Sciences (VINITI RAS). Particular focus is placed on the problem of access to these and other kinds of information sources on robotics, which is of great importance for researchers and specialists working in this field.
