Abstract
Currently, a distinction is made between Cushing's disease, when the pituitary gland (basophilic adenoma) is affected, and Cushing's syndrome, in which either the adrenal glands, or the ovaries, or the thymus gland are affected more often. A number of authors, such as Zondek, Benda and Bauer, believe that Cushing's syndrome is caused by damage to a number of glands, and among them, primarily, changes in the adrenal cortex.
