Abstract

It is known that many diseases of the esophagus (both organic and functional) are quite often accompanied by two inextricably linked processes: esophageal spasm and inflammation of its walls. This gives reason to talk about a kind of vicious circle in which a spasm of the esophagus, due to stagnation and food trauma, leads to esophagitis, and this latter increases the esophageal state. Both of these processes, regardless of their etiology, can be considered as a manifestation of dystrophy and dystonia, the course of which can be changed in a favorable direction by the action of novocaine (A.V. Vishnevsky, A.A. Vishnevsky, etc.).
