the article attempts to consider and analyze imperative constructions in a literary text, namely in L. Gunel’s novel “God Always Travels Incognito.” An imperative is one of the forms of speech influence that influences the behavior of communication participants and causes a response. The main imperative constructions, means and methods of expressing incentive statements in the context of the speech behavior of the main character of a literary text are analyzed. General and some particular imperative meanings are considered, such as the imperative of the future tense, the imperative of movement, the prohibitive, and the main semantic groups that characterize the main character of the novel as a linguistic personality are considered. In the speech of the protagonist, sentences with an incentive modality predominate, since he takes an authoritarian position in relation to the addressee. It is concluded that imperative constructions have an influencing character and are a special type of speech act.
